Floyd Mayweather: “Manny Pacquiao’s the last thing in the world that Floyd should be even be thinking about!”

Floyd Mayweather Jr is now less then 2 weeks away from what could be potenitnally the final fight is his boxing career. On September 12th he faces Andre Berto in a fight that many expect Mayweather to win. If Floyd wins the Berto bout it will mark the 49th victory of his career, tying him with Rocky Marciano’s unblemished record, and setting up the potential for a recording breaking 50th fight before he hangs up the gloves.

In part 1 of my “On The Ropes” boxing radio interview with Floyd Mayweather Sr, I discuss with him the upcoming Berto fight and Floyd Jr’s future beyond that. Senior shares his views on what kind of threat Berto is, and what he expects from his son at age 38. Additionally Senior gives his thoughts on Manny Pacquiao’s injury claims and if he thinks there is any reason for a rematch. Here is what Mayweather Sr had to say.

Jenna J: I’m joined by a very special guest, now making his 34th appearance to “On The Ropes” boxing radio, I’m joined by Floyd Joy Mayweather Sr. How’s everything going today Floyd?

Floyd Mayweather Sr: I’m good, I’m good.

Jenna J: Let’s talk about your son’s next fight, he will be taking on Andre Berto on September 12th. How do you feel about this match up?

Floyd Mayweather Sr: It’s a fight. I’m just saying that my son has been a champion numerous times and Berto has been champion two times. It’s made to be a fight.

Jenna J: What do you make of the people who are being critical of the fight even though Berto has been a champion twice in his career?

Floyd Mayweather Sr: Well, it don’t make no difference about what the people think or feel because none of those people are in the ring. Nobody has to worry about that.

Jenna J: Do you think Berto is any kind of threat at all?

Floyd Mayweather Sr: Any man is a threat. I’m just saying that any man can get lucky, anything can happen in a fight, anything. I’m not gonna sit up and say that he doesn’t have the quality to fight Floyd because things happen. The man has power, sometimes when a man throws power, sometimes a man gets lucky.

Anything can happen in a fight, anything can happen. That’s when you least expect things to happen, in fights. As far as technically, I think little Floyd is the best fighter, not for Berto, I think Floyd technically is the best fighter in the world right now.

Jenna J: How does Floyd look now at the age of thirty eight?

Floyd Mayweather Sr: He’s thirty eight and looking like he’s twenty eight.

Jenna J: So do you think your son can keep going if he wanted to?

Floyd Mayweather Sr: I definitely think he can keep going if he wanted to. I think that he can keep going if he keeps going for two or three more fights, but to tell you the truth, I can’t call it. The only thing I’m gonna tell you is that I think that whatever he does, I hope he gets out early enough because I see it happen all the time with these fighters. These good fighters fight to the end and most of the time it’s not a good look. You look at Larry Holmes, you look at Muhammad Ali, Tyson. You look at all these people but I’m just saying that it’s still in the run that it can happen to anybody else.

Jenna J: What did you think of Manny Pacquiao trying to sour your son’s last victory by saying he was injured?

Floyd Mayweather Sr: That’s Pacquiao blowing smoke with no hope. Hey, that’s Pacquiao right there. Pacquiao is blowing smoke, that’s what he’s doing. And Freddie Roach is saying, “It’s gonna be better this time than it was last time,” Freddie Roach is a joke, blowing smoke with no hope. That’s the one right there. Pacquiao’s the last thing in the world that Floyd should be even be thinking about, unless they deliver it like they delivered the last time, otherwise it shouldn’t even be going on at all.

Jenna J: Do you think there’s any reason for Floyd to revisit that fight?

Floyd Mayweather Sr: There’s nothing to even talk about with that fight. Floyd beat Pacquiao and it used to be that people would be talking about that and ain’t nobody thinking about that fight. That’s nothing. Floyd beat another opponent, that’s what he did. Nobody spectacular, nobody with no significance, no one with no name. He had one with a name and with no class to go with it.

JailWeather Jr. easily beat & outsmarted Pacquiao.
Manny’s only hope is if the ref. is NOT Kenny BrainLess, Joe Cortez, or Luis Pabon = the 3 most incompetent refs of our time. Plus, Freddy CockRoach & Pacquiao must do their homework and STOP THE LIP SERVICE.
Ref. Jack Riess will not allow Fraud Jr.’s excessive clinching… and probably his sprinting too.

father is talking like he was not worried during the fight .he was screaming to his son that his son is scared .hahahaha.and now his talking bullshit again the same as the son .

He wasn’t saying Floyd was “scared” per se, he meant that Floyd was being too defensive and wasn’t throwing enough punches to win in case the judges saw it as a close fight. That was the concern. Manny was open for way more than what Floyd hit him with, but Floyd played it safe and did just enough to win. Floyd didn’t really use hooks until later on in the fight and Manny was totally unprepared for it. Floyd could have beat him badly if he wanted.

Pacquiao easily without a doubt owned and schooled Floyd.

Berto is number 49 cherrypicked win for Floyd boxing record. Just for history of boxing to match Marciano’s record.

He lost a lot of money too paying all the judges and commentators a lumpsome. To pick cellphone terrorist Floyd the winner with his illegal business tactics.

I am a former Pacman fan, a filipino and a non bias in terms of comments. A former fan? Thats the 2nd time Manny made a ridiculous excuses (1st; the socks, 2nd the shoulder) Floyd have given Manny a chance and Manny blew it away.If he (manny) have genuine shoulder injury he should have postponed the fight for seven to ten days. Manny had lied to all the boxing fans.Theres no need for a 2nd fight. The result will be the same he cannot compete with class A boxers like Floyd.Floyd dances around and runs thats boxing. He throw punches I saw it with my naked eyes.Boy o boy Pacquiao thow punches in the air.Manny/Marquez 3 should have been Mannys right time to retire.I disregard Manny as a simple minded boxer because he is a kababayan. But my o my he don’t have brains to think.( Marquez/Pacquiao 4 is the best example)

There appears to be great reason (incentive) to revisit the Pacman/Mayweather 2: Money. Perhaps a second fight would not gross as much but One would be hard pressed to find a more lucrative match up at any weight class, in any discipline, or any sport. There certainly seems to be an appetite for such an event.

Duh ! I watched the video bro. It was on truth.com. But for real for real….U guys know that the government made the fight that close just to throw us off how they made Isis to put us back in the middle east right? How el chapo was actually let go of the Mexican prison because white people need Mexicans to remain broke and drug related? How the government blew the levys in broke neighborhoods to save the wealthy neighborhoods right?
Do I sound ridiculous? Good. Just making sure u dumb mayweather haters sound THAT dumb saying that Manny won that fight. When u have doubts, read the compubox numbers. That wins the fight. Ur rebuttals answer, read them again. And again. And again.

I think people here seem to forget the fact that the judges score cardsheets were in fact wrong the higher value was in fact in favour of Pacmans corner. Someone had mixed up the names on the corresponding corners, another fly move to right the match by a scared Mayweather camp. Many won that fight injured and everyone knows, Mayweather is a scaredisease little chump who has done nothing but pick and choose who he will fight, I mean please you fought him already and knew he is a sure thing. Marciano’s family are right to be angry, at least Rocky didn’t skip past fights he thought were a danger to his record. Marciano took every single fight as it came no matter the opponents reputation or track history, because he was a true champ and that’s what champions do. Mayweather is a joke, a disgrace to the world of boxing, FACT
