Floyd Mayweather: “Pacquiao’s a man that was chasing Floyd for years to fight, a fight that was an easy fight for Floyd”

Floyd Mayweather Sr. has always spoken his mind and never held back his opinion in regards to former eight division world champion, Manny Pacquiao and his trainer Freddie Roach. Through the years, Senior has expressed his doubts on the legitimacy of the accomplishments of both, and now that his son has claimed a victory over both, his views have not changed.

In part 2 of the “On The Ropes” boxing radio interview with Floyd Mayweather, I discuss with him the future of his son and get his thoughts on who Manny Pacquiao could fight next. Senior also shares his views on Manny Pacquiao’s career and how he thinks Pacquiao will be remembered. Additionally, Floyd discusses Freddie Roach and his own stable of fighters. Here is what Floyd Mayweather Sr. had to say.

Jenna J: Having spoken to your son after the Berto fight, do you think he is truly retired?

Floyd Mayweather Sr: I’m not gonna say, but I will hope one thing, if you ain’t gonna fight within six months, leave the damn game alone. If you’re not intending to fight between six months or seven at the most, then leave it alone because it ain’t going nowhere.

I don’t want to see my son going out there and trying to prove something where there ain’t nothing to prove. There’s nothing to prove right now, he’s done it all, there’s nothing left to prove. He beat everybody that’s in there, he beat all the top fighters that they’re talking about.

Floyd beat the top fighters today, he beat all the ones that they talk about being top dogs, he beat them. The ones that he didn’t fight, he can beat them too. Like I said, there is a saying that goes along with boxing, your age plays a part and you ain’t got that much time to be wasting.

Jenna J: How will you feel if Manny Pacquiao decides to retire right after your son ended his career?

Floyd Mayweather Sr: When Floyd said goodbye, he said goodbye to Pacquiao and everybody else. Unless Floyd decides to come back and do something that who knows what, because to me there’s no reason to fight nobody. He needs to stay right there with the Rocky Marciano record. He can surpass that record but if he wants to surpass it, I think he should do it within a year.

Jenna J: If Pacquiao does retire after his next fight, how will you remember his career?

Floyd Mayweather Sr: I’ll look at him like a man that was chasing Floyd for years to fight, a fight that was an easy fight for Floyd. I told everybody that the fight was easy. I don’t care how long they waited, when the fight took place, Floyd did what he said he was gonna do and I don’t think nobody was wrong in this situation for picking Floyd.

Jenna J: Do you think Manny Pacquiao will be remembered for his accomplishments?

Floyd Mayweather Sr: I’m gonna be honest with you, when you get to telling the truth about things, the truth is the one thing that’s gonna set you free. I truly believe that pretty much all of those fights that Pacquiao was winning, he had a way he was winning, it wasn’t looking that good the way he was winning fights.

He was hitting but he didn’t do nothing when he hadn’t done nothing. It is what it is, and Freddie ‘The Joke Coach’ Roach, he’s still talking about how he wants Manny Pacquiao to fight Floyd again. Come on man, he needs to go sit down somewhere. Freddie Roach is the joke.

Jenna J: How proud are you that you went head to head with Roach and beat him?

Floyd Mayweather Sr: It was just like my son. My son beat him as a fighter and I beat him as a trainer. It was easy for me to beat him. He’s the one that hasn’t won no damn fights this year, everybody whooped his boys’ ass. All my boys are winning. I have a guy that I’m training that beat his guy good and then I have Ladarius ‘Memphis’ Miller and he beat his guy good. Andrew Tabiti beat his guy good. I don’t hear nothing about Freddie Roach, he’s the joke blowing smoke with no hope.

Jenna J: When it comes down to your son’s career, how do you think he will be remembered as a boxer?

Floyd Mayweather Sr: He should be remembered as one of the greatest. I know God is greater than all of us, but when you talk about this planet right here, he should be way past a lot of these guys. His name should definitely come up anytime in the top ten.

That is why Floyd Senior begged his to Man UP cause he’s fighting scared against a “One Hander” Pacquaio! Floyd was holding and running! Floyds only strategy was hold Pacquaio when he comes in and run when cornered until Pacquaio changes his strategy and stand in front of him. When Pacquaio hurt his shoulder that’s when he stand in front of Floyd more to counter.
