Floyd Mayweather Sr: “Well if Canelo Alvarez wants to be at 154lbs, then we might be able to go!”

The career of Floyd Mayweather Jr. may be coming to an end. His supposed final fight against Andre Berto is now only a few days away and the pre-fight hype has already begun. While many question remain about whether or not this fight will be the last, his father Floyd Mayweather Sr. has thoughts on what direction his son might take after September 12th.

In part 2 of my “On The Ropes” boxing radio interview with Floyd Mayweather Sr, I talked with him about Manny Pacquiao possibly facing Amir Khan next and who he thinks would win that fight. I also get Senior’s thoughts on his son’s future and if he thinks Floyd Jr. could fight the winner of Canelo-Cotto. Additionally Floyd gives his official prediction for this weekend and talks about the fighter he feels could be the next star. Here is what Floyd Mayweather Sr. had to say.

Jenna J: There’s been some talk that Manny Pacquiao may fight Amir Khan next, early next year. What do you think of that fight?

Floyd Mayweather Sr: I’m gonna be honest with you, I think Amir Khan will beat him too.

Jenna J: Why do you feel that way?

Floyd Mayweather Sr: Anybody that can box is gonna cause Pacquiao a problem. Even if Pacquiao beats him, Pacquiao’s gonna get beat up before he lands the big punch anyways. Pacquiao’s gonna get beat up even if he wins the fight, if it goes beyond six to eight rounds.

Jenna J: Do you think Khan could earn the fight with your son if he beats Manny Pacquiao?

Floyd Mayweather Sr: I already told him anyways, he doesn’t deserve no fight. I told him, “I’ve seen your ass get whooped by bums, you don’t need no fight.”

Jenna J: So no matter what he does, you don’t think he will ever be worthy of the fight?

Floyd Mayweather Sr: He don’t need no fight, and if there’s any kind of way that he thinks he’s gonna get a fight — because that’s all he wants. Then he’s gonna put his damn ragly ass daddy on the phone.

Jenna J: Saul Alvarez and Miguel Cotto will be fighting in November. Do you think the winner of that fight might interest your son, to go for a middleweight title?

Floyd Mayweather Sr: I’m gonna be honest with you, I don’t think that my son should be fighting at no middleweight at his age. He doesn’t need all that kind of contact. He’s got his money, that money you got right there, if you can’t live the rest of your life with it, oh well. I wouldn’t fight neither one of them at 160lbs, that’s too much.

Jenna J: Cotto and Alvarez are fighting at a catch-weight of 155lbs. I’m curious, who are you favoring in that fight?

Floyd Mayweather Sr: I really can’t just sit up and tell you who I believe because to me it’s like a toss up with that fight. That’s a real tough fight. I think Alvarez is younger, I will say that Alvarez is younger and he probably boxes a little bit better. If I do go with someone, I would probably go with Alvarez.

Jenna J: If Alvarez wins that fight, do you think your son would give him a rematch?

Floyd Mayweather Sr: If I was my son, I wouldn’t give him a rematch at 160lbs.

Jenna J: What about at 154lbs?

Floyd Mayweather Sr: Well if he wants to be at 154lbs, then we might be able to go.

Jenna J: What is your prediction for the Mayweather-Berto fight?

Floyd Mayweather Sr: In all fights I expect my son to win. I’m not discrediting what Berto would do, anybody that wins two world titles, the guy’s gotta be able to fight a little bit. You don’t win two titles just like that.

Jenna J: If your son wins the fight with Berto and looks good, do you think he retires after that fight?

Floyd Mayweather Sr: Well, my belief could be none or it could be some. I believe that he might fight a couple more fights, or he might fight one more fight. I do believe that he will continue.

Jenna J: In closing, are there any news with any of the fighters that you’re working with?

Floyd Mayweather Sr: I’m working with this guy named Devin Haney, he’s sixteen years old right now. I’m suspecting him to be the world champion about the time he’s close to eighteen or at eighteen he will be world champion.

He’s the most talked about young fighter around Vegas today and he’s whooping a whole lot of pros out here. He’s a young man, whooping guys who are undefeated with 14 fights, he beats them all. This guy is something to be reckoned with.

Smelly Paki Khan has good boxing skills. Plus, he has length & reach.
He was beating the crap out of Garcia before Danny landed that home run on Khan’s granite chin….

Floyd Sr slags Khan for getting beat by bums and says he doesn’t deserve a fight yet he praises Berto who’s lost 3 of his last 6 fights and was beaten by poorer opposition than Khan! The Mayweather’s don’t half talk some shit! The sooner Floyd retires the better for the sport!

  3. […] a big fight with Manny Pacquiao, after being passed over by Floyd Mayweather Jr. several times, Floyd Sr. is asked about how he sees that potential fight playing itself out. Never one to lack an opinion, Floyd Sr. gives his feedback on that prospective […]

I don’t know why a Wannabee sportswriter like Jenna continues to get entertained by this character,
The Senior bum has been irrelevant since the Hatton’s K O’s and has been irrelevant all the time, look at this fight he brags about for his son. You guess it no one will watch it, why because this Clan are irrelevant and no one cares and believe them. Who will believe them? Just look at their faces?

This clown should be ashamed of himself! they accused Pacman of using performance enhancing drugs and recently USADA released a statement that Floyd Jr. had used a IV banned substance before his fight agaisnt Pacman. The world is not a fool because Floyd is a fuckin cheater!

    • Objectivity says:

Actually, Barry, the substance wasn’t illegal as it was just saline and vitamins meant for hydration. What was questionable is the fact that it was administered through an IV – if this story is true at all. I expect if this is true Mayweather would be open to court action. I imagine they continue to print these stories because they provoke traffic. Hope your day gets better.
