Floyd Mayweather Sr: “Floyd clearly beat Manny Pacquiao. If they fight again, Pacquiao’s arm gonna be hurt again!”

(Transcribed by Michael Readman) Trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr. is one of the most well known personalities in boxing. Mayweather has worked with world champions like Oscar De La Hoya and Chad Dawson, but is most known for being the father and head trainer of his son Floyd Mayweather Jr. Senior last trained his son in September 2015 for Mayweather Jr’s one sided decision win over Andre Berto. Since that fight there has been talk of Mayweather Jr’s return, but to this day he has stayed retired, a move that has been welcomed by some.

In Part 1 of my “On The Ropes” boxing radio interview with Floyd Mayweather Sr, I get his thoughts on a possible return to the ring for his son and his views on some fighters that he could match up with. Senior also talks about Danny Garcia and what sort of challenge he might pose to his son. Additionally, Floyd gives his thoughts on Manny Pacquiao’s comeback fight against Jesse Vargas, if thinks his son should give Pacquiao a rematch and how he thinks his son would do fighting at 40. Here is what Floyd Mayweather Sr had to say.

Jenna J: Floyd, this month marked one year since you trained your son in his last professional fight against Andre Berto. Do you think he will stay retired or do you think might still comeback?

Floyd Mayweather Sr: Well, you know, I’m here to tell you that I don’t know. But me, myself, I do believe that he will come back and have one more fight. I mean, I’m not saying so much as just to fight, I’m talking about breaking Rocky Marciano’s record. I think he can do it.

Jenna J: Well, what kind of fight do you see out there for him now at this point?
It’s all about taking the right fight, I’m sure you would agree, being the fact that he’s almost 40.

Floyd Mayweather Sr: Of course its about picking the right fight. That would be something that me and him would have to do. We would have to check him out. The individual that were looking for to fight, we’d have to put a check in on him.

Jenna J: Well, Floyd, let me give you some names that people are talking about. Some people have mentioned Danny Garcia, being the fact that he’s undefeated and he holds Floyd’s belt now. Do you think that’s a possible fight?

Floyd Mayweather Sr: We’d have to see about that, but I’m just telling you right now though. In the fight, Garcia gets beat. You heard that from me. He might be a good fighter, but he ain’t as good as Floyd. He’s an alright fighter, he hasn’t lost, he and who did he fight last? Somebody said that they fought a fight with him that was real close. Who was that?

Jenna J: His last fight was against Robert Guererro, but it wasn’t that close. Guererro didn’t throw enough to win and looked like a fighter that was well past his prime.

Floyd Mayweather Sr: Well, Floyd put a whooping on him right there. He ain’t the same Guererro he was at first. It was clear to see, I’m just saying that when you look at guys like him man, they take good whoopings from guys, whopping them up, down, down and up, up down. Them guys right there, they be just a matter of time.

Jenna J: Floyd, I’m sure you’ve heard Manny Pacquiao announced that hes coming out of retirement to face Jessie Vargas. Being the fact that Jessie Vargas has been in the Mayweather gym in the past, I’m wondering how you think he does?

Floyd Mayweather Sr: It’s hard to say about that right there, but Pacquiao too, he’s not on the big screen no more. I’m planning on watching that fight. I’ll be looking for that, in fact I’ll probably go there.

Jenna J: How do you see it playing out, based on what you’ve seen from Vargas and the fact you’ve trained your son for Pacquiao before. How do you think it will go?

Floyd Mayweather Sr: I can’t really tell what’s gonna be happening right now, but Floyd beat Pacquiao real easy though. Sometimes when people beat you up and give you a good beating, you don’t have that same desire no more, and that could be it with Pacquiao.

Jenna J: Floyd, do you see the fact that Pacquiao’s coming back as an attempt to try and get that rematch with Floyd, to get that rematch with Floyd in Floyd’s 50th fight? Is Pacquiao even in consideration for that after the whole shoulder thing?

Floyd Mayweather Sr: If I was my son, I wouldn’t even give him another fight because he said lies about how my son won the fight. Talking about his arm, something wrong with arm, weren’t nothing wrong with his arm. Floyd clearly beat him, everybody saw that and everybody knows that. If they fight again, his arm gonna be hurt again, OK.

Jenna J: Do you think Floyd himself would consider that fight though?

Floyd Mayweather Sr: To tell you the truth, I don’t really know. I couldn’t tell you about that one. I never even talk to him about that one. After Floyd beat him I thought it would just be over. He might wanna come back one day, but Pacquiao would get the same thing. It ain’t even worth trying.

He’s lying. Yesterday he said something, another day he says another one. And he knew Pacquiao was hurt in sparring. He even told the media about it during Floyd’s media day close to the fight. He was saying “Roach is not telling the whole truth about Pacquiao’s condition”. It’s on the video.

Mayweather fights like a scared little girl

  9. George says:

He would never beat pacquiao toe to toe

  10. George says:

Mayweather has to hold and run because he is scared of getting hit. He pays off the judges to score for him.punch Stat is also fixed.

  11. George says:

Mayweather never beats an aponent like pacquiao does. Mayweather is a point fighter, he is not a power puncher like pacquiao.

  12. George says:

Mayweather is only good at beating women. They won’t hit back as hard as pacquiao.

  13. George says:

Pacquiao fought with one arm and mayweather was still scared to engage in a fight.

It’s always right as they say, the hand is faster than the eye, so i cannot blame the judges with the way they called the fight, but as with expectations from the judges that floyd will make Pacman miss, when it happens during the fight they seem to make it a point in favor of floyd, and this is boxing..The points is based on punches landed..Try watching the slowmotion of the fight and you will see that it is indeed the hand is faster than the eye..Then tell us who really won the fight…peace.

  17. Rommel says:

Floyd Dag Sr. says to his sprinter son of bitch hey son don’t fight like you’re scared bitch. yeah i remember this bitch fuck yeah

  18. Jei says:

Please no more rematch! Let’s not give Floyd anymore money, if he run before when he was 38, what more now that he is 40. Let see a more honorable fights like Garcia, Crawford or even Canelo. No more boring fights with floyd. This guy will run, clinching, and headlock guaranteed! That all he can do with manny. He can’t even handle pacquiao’s punches.

  19. gabriele says:

reading those comments i can only see casuals who don’t know shit about boxing. delusional retards.

if pacquiao was missing with his plan is that a floyd fault? or maybe a floyd prop?

definitely the second one. if i make you moss while hitting you more why don’t you change your plan?

if you have no “plan B” is your fault, outboxed, outsmarted = beaten.

sure, floyd took some good hits here and there but if you know about boxing you can see he did adjustment after them.

say “runner” or “hugger” is just plan stupid.
