Jeff Mayweather: “It’s gonna be Khan or maybe Pacquiao next for Floyd, because there’s no other options!”

Jeff Mayweather is part of one of the most well known families in boxing, the Mayweather familiy. The Mayweather name is well known in the sport mostly due to current pound-for-pound king, Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather, but Jeff, alongside his two brothers Floyd and Roger, all established successful professional careers. ‘Jazzy’ Jeff Mayweather’s fighting career spanned nine years, during which he won the IBO super featherweight title. After his time in the ring, Jeff transitioned to being a trainer and has led many top level fighters to success.

In part 2 of my interview with Jeff Mayweather, I get his thoughts on the potential of Richard Schaefer taking over as CEO of Mayweather Promotions, possible future opponents for Floyd Mayweather, and Jeff’s current stable of fighters. Here is what Jeff Mayweather had to say.

Robert Brown: So even though Richard Schaefer has a clause in his contract, do you expect Floyd to come to a deal with Golden Boy and perhaps Richard Schaefer take up the CEO role at Mayweather Promotions?

Jeff Mayweather: That looks like that’s probably in the works. I’m not one hundred percent sure, I can’t say definitely, but it looks like that’s a high possibility.

Robert Brown: Bob Arum turned up the pressure a bit, he’s saying that the two networks have agreed to show the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight, if these two can come to an agreement. Why do you think he’s done this, and do you think this increases the chances of the Pacquiao fight possibly happening?

Jeff Mayweather: It’s not so much him turning it up. At the end of the day, Pacquiao has a fight in front of him and he has to win, and if he wins then it becomes a reality, the possibility of it happening can become a reality. But, other than that, it won’t happen.

Robert Brown: Who do you think the frontrunner for Floyd’s next fight is at this stage?

Jeff Mayweather: To be honest, I can’t really say who it is because I’m not one hundred percent sure. If they do it by names — which Floyd normally does — it may actually help the pay–per-view revenue, it’s gonna possibly be Khan or maybe Pacquiao next for Floyd, because there’s no other options out there in the weight class that make any sense.

Robert Brown: You wouldn’t see Kell Brook as a possibility?

Jeff Mayweather: Why? He never done nothing. He squeaked out a decision over (Shawn) Porter and that really hasn’t done much to raise his stock. He just beat a guy and he barely beat him.

Robert Brown: There’s a possibility of Keith Thurman and Devon Alexander fighting on the undercard of Hopkins-Kovalev. Who do you think would win that fight?

Jeff Mayweather: That’s a good fight, that’s a real good fight. I think that Devon Alexander has much better skills, Thurman is probably a little better puncher. It’s a pick’em fight. I think that if Devon Alexander is really in his rhythm, I think that he’ll beat him easily. If he can’t deal with the pressure that Thurman brings, I think that he’ll probably come up short. I think whoever dictates the pace of the fight will win.

Robert Brown: How are you doing with your fighters at the moment?

Jeff Mayweather: I’m doing well. I was in DC for a fight last night, with ‘Chop Chop’ DeMarcus Corley. He’s making one more run at a world title, but this time at lightweight. He won a ten round decision but he looked very impressive, he put the guy down about five times.

We had him out maybe three out of those five times but we just didn’t push on the gas all the way. It was a big performance. We just joined forces, this is only my second fight with him. The first fight we had a KO for a WBF title and this is the second fight we worked together and it was quite impressive.

its not gonna happen because of Floyd’s new condition… The only way he can fight pacman is to sign to Mayweather’s Promotion and only CBS/Showtime are the only Company to promote that fight.

This is so obvious that Mayweather avoid pacquaio’s fight

I wish MAFIA called out Mayweather to fight Pacquaio or else they gonna kill his Family Just Like what they Did to Micheal Jordan’s case.

That’s a dick head thing to say about MJ’s Dad and Floyd’s family. I bet you wouldn’t say that to their faces. Would you?

  2. pillio says:

They will always throw in PAcquiao’s name in there but in reality, Floyd will NEVER ever fight Manny.
It will be Kahn because of his glass chin!

  3. artjd says:

Are you telling me, Jeff, that your nephew has finally grown pair????? I can’t believe it!!!!!!!

  4. artjd says:

Actually, Jeff, your whole family has been saying that Floydie the Girlie will fight Pacquiao the last f….ng five years now, but all I see is your nephew fighting Pacquiao on Twitter. Goddamit, be a man!!!!! Twitter is for ladies, for God’s sake!!!!

  5. floydcott says:

floyd already fought pacman…but only in tweeter. This fight will nevah evah happen with floyd new demand, who the hell is he compare to manny’s achievement in boxing. People will never forget the name floyd who’s the only boxer in the history who ducked to a smaller man name manny pacquiao!

  6. wilbert says:

Pacman nor Khan are class B 5kph boxers. Girly Floyd wants class C now. He looked like an amateur against class B 6kph Maidana.

  7. barry gil r. pilar says:

..Jeff says stupid things just like his chicken nephew! Floyd has a lot of demands and immediately after his fight agaisnt Maidana he echoes his new set of damn demands clearly manifesting his intent to continually duck Pacquiao. The hope that these two pugilists will face each other in the ring is now shattered. I think its the right decision for Floyd to avoid Pacquiao because Manny will knock him out! As John Gatling puts it, Floyd cant beat the Pacman!

  8. Hunkdylan says:

GAYWEATHER is too SCARED to MANNY PACQUIAO. This fight won’t ever happen. But if happen’s in God’s grace surely Pacman will knock the big mouth of GAYWEATHER. And whoop his ass in the canvass hardly as Hatton experience from the champ.

  9. jay correa says:

the mega fight wont happen…..if we still watch Manny and Floyd jr. fights with other opponent….
if they will fight each other… no more huge money to collect from fans…..cause they both a cash cow of boxing

With all this hate out here, its really hard to believe these are men making such stupid comments about something as simple as boxing. The people who are calling Floyd or any fighter afraid when they fight for a living is stupid. If you want to hype up your favorite fighter that’s cool, stop making up bullshit while you dick ride your favorite fighter.

  12. Liam clarke says:

the fight is pac man ( 1st) Khan (2nd) and garcia (3rd) but mayweather will prob go for a crazy mix match like Hopkins I just have this strange feeling..he s going to hype up the fight as Hopkins is a legend in his own right. But not in the shape to win a fight with mayweather..it will be another 12 round points win to mayweather
