With Manny Pacquiao’s dominant performance over Algieri, will we finally see a Floyd Mayweather bout?

Manny Pacquiao notched up an emphatic one sided victory over the challenger to his WBO welterweight title, Chris Algieri, at the Cotai Arena in Macao. Algieri had secured the bout against the Filipino icon following a brutal affair against Russian slugger Ruslan Provodnikov. Surviving two knockdowns at the hands of Provodnikov, Algeri would have to again climb off the canvas six times at the hands of ‘Pacman.’

Stamping his authority on the bout from the off set, Pacquiao dominated virtually every minute of every round. With Algieri boxing off the backfoot, Pacquiao tracked Algieri across the canvas, nailing him repeatedly with solid left hands. Showing little regard for Algieri’s punching power, Pacquiao seemed intent on blasting Algieri out before the final bell.

Algieri looked to establish a jab, darting in and out infrequently. Algieri did manage to land a clean right hand on occasion, with little affect as Pacquiao replied with hammering left straights followed by some blistering right hands. Manny rolled Algieri over with ease as a powerful left hand put him down in the ninth — one of six knockdowns during the twelve rounds.

It was apparent to everyone that Algieri would require a stoppage in the latter stages of the contest. The furthest thing from his mind at the moment, Algieri looked to survive to hear the final bell, which he achieved, steering clear of any Pacquiao onslaught in the remaining rounds.

“It’s not so much the punching power, to tell you the truth, it’s how he mixes the punches up,” said Algieri, “He has a very, very distinct and unique style that he has perfected. Manny Pacquiao is a hell of a fighter.”

Pacquiao received the nod from the judges who handed in scorecards of 120-102 and 119-103 twice in a Pacquiao shutout.

“I came to fight,” Pacquiao said. “I did my best. Of course, I am satisfied with my performance. We started training camp several weeks earlier. We worked on the heavy bag. Algieri was fast moving and no I was not surprised he kept getting up because that’s what he did against Ruslan Provodnikov. He has a big heart.” Without doubt if nothing else, Algieri once again displayed admirable heart to see out the twelve rounds against the world’s #2 pound for pound fighter.

Regardless if the fight finally takes place or not, Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather will be linked in this era of boxing’s rich history. Following Pacquiao’s dominant and one sided drumming of Algieri, the question of a possible Floyd Mayweather showdown once again shone under the spotlight.

“The people deserve that fight. The fans deserve that fight,” Pacquiao said at the post-fight news conference. “It’s time to make that fight happen. It’s been a long time. I want that fight. They’re always denying the fight. I think the fight has to happen.”

Although Pacquiao is on board with the fight, and the networks might very well be able to make a deal, there has been no word from Mayweather thus far. Neither man has anything left to prove at this stage of their respective careers in the current climate. In the current landscape of the sport, no other fight would captivate the public to the extent of a Pacquiao vs Mayweather

  2. Pac180 says:

This algier got exposed, his “jab” was nowhere to be seen. Power of pacquiao is still there, you dont knock a guy 6 times with no power or killer instinct.

Ball is in Mayweather court as they say…

I have a very strong feeling that the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight will never happen. Floyd wants to use only his Mayweather Promotion and don’t want Top Rank or Arum to be involved, that cannot be the case with Arum. So this latest hype for that elusive fight should soon stop, only papa Floyd Sr. will be doing all the talking, you will see.
As to Algeiri, I still believe he has a a good future in boxing but first he should fire his trainers. There is Roy Jones, the Garcia father and son, and even Freddie Roach.

Mayweather’s balls are in his throat right now… this time, he doesn’t have any excuses not to fight Pacquiao. I still think Mayweather will win by points because he’s more skilled/smarter in the ring compared to Pacquiao. In my opinion, he’s just too scared to lose the “0” in his record (not necessarily scared of Pacquiao). Prove us wrong Mayweather!!!

Now, Im pretty sure , Gay Weather is thinking of a new alibi to avoid PAC, common chicken shit, dont be a coward, face the PAC in the ring, stop trash talking, o body believe you any more, ha ha ha ha

place your bets !!! who will prevail ???

TEAM ASHKENAZI vs TMT (The Money Team)

Is it possible Team Ash would allow The Money Team to make a monkey of itself by holding the bag while floyd flaunts the big bucks he bilked and duped from the A Team by fighting the tune-up fights and avoiding the fight of the century.

Knowing Team Ashkenazi has a reputation to protect, one wonders why they allowed it to fester far too long from HBO to Showtime and ultimately CBS and not lift a finger to at least break even on their deal with floyd.

  6. Jonathan says:

what you people don’t realize is that floyd has a book full of excuses to not fight Manny.

  7. edel says:

just like he admitted in the video he is A rich coward. leave the man alone

  8. artjd says:

I doubt the fight will ever happen. Before the Algieri fight, Floyd still has balls, although teenie weenie. After the Algieri fight those teenie weenie balls are totally gone!

Marquez.convince himself that KO pacquiao is hardly ducplicate he was very reluctant to get in 5fth fight.family member and trainor nancho is more scared even $10m offered that 4x in alvarado fight.in boxing you dont know what happen if the lucky punch is coming.Rios teach him like an amature.Bradley teach him to become suicide sluger and Algieri teach him again like a kid to go back where he belong.talent isn’t enough in all aspect of victorious but character is long lasting.. and mayweather jr will fall even he doesn’t want to fight.

  10. wbox says:

Floyd is nowhere near 1/2 of Pacman’s accomplishment. Floyd is rubbish. No need to fight this fake clown.

  11. The author’s assessment may be true and if Mayweather believe in it, he will surely jump and take Manny Pacquiao down. But Mayweather Jr. know himself more than any other and that’s the reason WHY he will not fight Manny because he has no balls. In boxing not only skill and talent are needed, you need a big set of BALLS

  12. FORGET ABOUT MAYWEATHER JR. HE WILL NOT FIGHT MANNY. MANNY SHOULD GO DOWN TO 140 LBS AND FACE WHOEVER WANT TO FIGHT HIM AND THEN RETIRE. HE WILL GO DOWN IN HISTORY AS THE BEST IN HIS TIME, NOT TBE, BUT THE BEST WITH BIG BALLS.

  13. Aldrin says:

algeiri last the 12 rounds by taking a knee twice which means he is hurt by the 2 kd from the left straight ang hook by pacquiao… Algeiri is in denial that he was only hurt in the 9th round. But he took a knee on both kd which he uses to recover. Now you say what will pacquiao do to mayweather, mayweather has a tendency to fight toe to toe that was the time that pacquiao gonna caught him with the left straight or whatever…
