Floyd Mayweather Sr: “I don’t think Floyd has gone that far that he couldn’t beat Pacquiao a second time. You see how easy Floyd beat him!”

Trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr. is well known around the boxing circles due to his work with son, Floyd Mayweather Jr. and also former great, Oscar De La Hoya. His son recently turned 40 years old, an age that Senior himself retired at and some wonder if we will ever see Mayweather Jr. return to the ring and if we do, will he be the same fighter before he left?

In part 1 of my “On The Ropes” boxing radio interview with Floyd Mayweather Sr, I discuss with him his son turning 40 and get his thoughts on how he thinks his son would do fighting at that age. Senior also gives his thoughts on a Conor McGregor bout and who he thinks would be better for his son to reach 50-0 against, Pacquiao or McGregor. Additionally, Floyd breaks down this weekend’s fight between Keith Thurman and Danny Garcia, giving his prediction for the bout. Here is what Floyd Mayweather Sr. had to say.

Jenna J: Floyd, your son recently turned 40 years old, what do you think of your son reaching that milestone?

Floyd Mayweather Sr: When his age comes, he’s just got one thing he has to do, you have to deal with your age. He’s still talking about fighting, which I don’t think is a bad thing if he was fighting Conor McGregor. I think he’s quite a bit young too, Floyd’s over a decade older than him.

Jenna J: You’re fine if he continues fighting as long as it’s against someone like McGregor?

Floyd Mayweather Sr: I’m going to be honest with you, as far as him boxing at 40 or 41 against someone like McGregor, bring it on. Bring it on.

Jenna J: Do you worry that Floyd may start showing signs of decline?

Floyd Mayweather Sr: You can’t be safe if you’re taking chances. I think he doesn’t need to be taking chances with nobody. If I was him, I may not do it with Conor McGregor. You never know what people may do, he may throw an elbow, he might throw a knee. You just don’t know with him.

Jenna J: Some people say if that fight happens and your son is easily out-boxing MgGregor, that he may resort to a knee or a kick. What do you think of that?

Floyd Mayweather Sr: That is so true. I’ve been thinking about this situation because I don’t think this is something that Floyd should attack right now, I don’t think he needs that right now.

Jenna J: There is still Manny Pacquiao and the rematch would sell, do you think Floyd would consider that to make 50-0?

Floyd Mayweather Sr: I don’t think Floyd has gone that far that he couldn’t beat Pacquiao a second time, I don’t think he’s gone that far. You see how easy Floyd beat him, you see how easy that was, so it won’t be too much different with that right there.

Jenna J: Would you prefer if Floyd fought Pacquiao over McGregor?

Floyd Mayweather Sr: It all depends on what type of money thing they’re doing, I don’t know.

Jenna J: What are your thoughts on the upcoming Keith Thurman vs. Danny Garcia fight this weekend?

Floyd Mayweather Sr: One thing about Thurman is that he’s got a damn good right hand, and I’ll tell you what he’s going to do. He’s going to line him up, he’s going to have him in the corner and he’s going to clock him, believe me. I ain’t saying that hes that great of a boxer, but that man can bang for real.

Thurman talks about wanting to fight Floyd but I’m not even worried about him fighting Floyd because that fight is out of district anyways. Even if it had happened, Keith Thurman would have never whooped Floyd because he’s not even fast enough. He doesn’t have those kinds of reflexes. Keith Thurman’s punches take too long to get there. He can never win anyways and Floyd is on his way out anyway and everybody knows what would have happened with Keith Thurman because if the fight could have been that good, a lot of people would have been asking for it.

Jenna J: Do you believe that Thurman will get a knockout over Danny Garcia?

Floyd Mayweather Sr: I ain’t gonna tell you that he’s gonna knock him out. I think there’s a good chance that he can knock him out. I’m going for Thurman and I’m telling you what may happen. I think if Keith Thurman hits him good once and he jumps on him, the fight will be over.

  1. yup, he beat manny pacquiao– in a running match!!! what a sprinter your son is and someday he will be called “THE GREATEST RUNNER OF ALL TIME” in a boxing match. hahahahaha

  2. The world saw Pacquiao the winner. The judges and Mayweather fans saw a different fight. Hehehe!

  3. Floyd Sr. you said it yourself in 4th round “Why you fuckin’ fight like your scared?”
Jr. got hurt and hit more and you sayin’ he won easy?

  4. Floyd didn’t beat pacquiao easy. Floyd didn’t win at all. Pacquiao won that fight! Mayweather Sr. And the Mayweather clan Likes to say that because it helps them to sleep better at night. You don’t have to believe me watch it again on YouTube. Proof is all over the social media. The mayweathers likes to convince the public that what they saw is not really what they saw, buy repeating themselves over and over again. If you beat the guy then why do you keep mentioning that you beat him… Because in their subconscious mind they didn’t.

  5. watch again criminal – S L O W M O muted…u cheaters out there at home of the brave..home of the gay-can’t fight even..a protected USADA friend – show all your drug tests under USADA!

  6. If referee is NOT Kenny BrainLess Jr., then Pakyaw has a chance.
If not, it’ll be the same result…… Pakyaw will cut off the ring & trap Fraud Jr. Then JailWeather will simply grab & hold Manny for a reset or he’ll simply sprint away. We’ll see Kenny BrainLess applauding SkunkWeather’s tactics….. might even give him a standing ovation.

  7. You all are bugging lol. I wanted Pac-Man, but lets be honest he looked amateur. I called floyd a runner too, but fight stats showed he actually landed and threw more. Pac got outclassed. Would he if they fought earlier when they should’ve? Idts. I think Pac would dominate, but it wasn’t his time. Time took a bigger toll on him than floyd and it clearly showed that night. Sorry Pac fans, but he didn’t win at all.

  8. Frankly, after watching it live on TV, before the announcement of the winner, I am not sure who will win. There are so many close rounds to score but flash on TV looked mayweather Sr. is so much worried during the middle rounds. If mayweather and pacquiao are nobody say it’s their initial professional fight, I will go as pacquiao the winner because of his aggresiveness..
