Floyd Mayweather Sr: “I think Manny Pacquiao may beat Amir Khan. If Pacquiao hits him good, Amir Khan is gone!”

Floyd Mayweather Sr. has had a long career as a trainer, a position he has excelled at and had more success than in his boxing career. He has trained fighters to world championships and he turned his son into the best fighter of this generation. Mayweather Sr, now 64, is looking to close out his training career but he wants to make another world champion before he retires, his 15th.

In part 2 of my “On The Ropes” boxing radio interview with Floyd Mayweather Sr, I discuss with him Manny Pacquiao’s recent announcement that he will be facing Amir Khan next and also get his views on the other opponent option, Terence Crawford. Senior also shares his views on Canelo vs. Chavez Jr. and breaks down how he thinks that fight will play out. Additionally, Mayweather talks about his own training future, when he plans to retire and if he thinks Andrew Tabiti will be his next champion. Here is what Floyd Mayweather Sr. had to say.

Jenna J: Floyd, it appears that Manny Pacquiao’s next fight will be against Amir Khan, what are your thoughts on that and what did you think of the other option he had of Terence Crawford?

Floyd Mayweather Sr: I’m not saying that Pacquiao’s done but I don’t think he can beat Terence Crawford. I think he may beat Amir Khan though. It depends on what Amir Khan is right now, everybody is getting old up there. I don’t really even know that much about Terence Crawford, only little things that I’ve seen, that’s all. He looks to be a very good fighter to me. I looked at Terence Crawford and I think he does a lot of things in there and I think he’s kind patented himself after Floyd a little bit.

Jenna J: How do you think Amir Khan holds up if he fights Pacquiao?

Floyd Mayweather Sr: Amir Khan has a glass jaw, if you look at him too long, he’s going to fall down. We’ll see, but if Pacquiao hits Amir Khan good, Amir Khan is gone.

Jenna J: Canelo Alvarez has a fight coming up against Chavez Jr. What do you see in that fight?

Floyd Mayweather Sr: Canelo is a young man right now. I’m going to be honest, I think Canelo has a good chance of beating him too. I think he has a very good chance because Chavez can’t fight that good. Alvarez, I give him credit for some of the stuff that he does. I can see Alvarez beating him.

Jenna J: You recently trained Andrew Tabiti to a victory, who are some of the other guys you are working with now?

Floyd Mayweather Sr: These guys are just like women, they go and they come. It be whether you want to take them back or not, or whatever. I’m that kind of guy. At first I had a big squad but right now I’m not worried about no squad, you know why? Because I got enough stuff to do on my own. I got enough stuff to do of the things that I want to do, so I don’t care to be honest.

Jenna J: Do you still enjoy training like you used to in the past?

Floyd Mayweather Sr: I’m going to tell you what happened. I’m still keeping up my motivation in what I do, and I still can do it good. But I can’t worry about these people right here now, the way these guys come and go and come and go. I can’t do all that, and it don’t make no difference anyways because next year I’ll be retiring anyways.

Jenna J: In 2017, do you think Andrew Tabiti will be a champion?

Floyd Mayweather Sr: Yes I believe that, I definitely believe that. That will be my 15th champion that I make.

Jenna J: Is that your goal for this year?

Floyd Mayweather Sr: That’s my goal, and like I was telling you about me, if Tabiti’s a champion then I’m going to keep on working. If he’s a champion I’m going to keep working because I’m the only one who can hold the pads that good for him anyways.

  1. Yeah i don’t see Pacquiao knocking Khan out, he really can’t knock anyone out anymore. He is not a power puncher and he’s no Canelo. I really believe that this will do the distance and Pacquiao might find himself coming up short on the cards. It will be close, but Khan is a better boxer.

    1. You might be on crack. Khan is no way a better boxer than Pacquiao. For the first time, I agree with mayweather sr. Khan has a problem with his stamina at later rounds. Canelo is no Pacquiao. Pacquiao is an all time great while canelo is not even rated high in any pound-for-pound list.

  2. fuck! my father just told you the truth! amir is just one good punch away from manny. damn it.

    1. Real talk from SR, he bcome an honest man now
he have learned from what he saw, how scared his son on maypac1.
he really meant his son lost big time and not that much satisfiend on the results either way.
slowmo replay please. no excuses mr.SR is more realistic.
