Carl Froch vs. George Groves: Weigh in results & Prediction

With just over 24 hours until they meet in the center of the ring in Wembley stadium, Carl Froch and George Groves came face to face as both men tipped the scales today. Weighing in at 167lbs 9oz and 166lbs 4oz respectively, Froch squared off with Groves one final time before these two pugilists settle the question of Britain’s best super middleweight.

In a two hour span, 60,000 tickets had been snatched up by fans, reinforcing the magnitude of this event to any doubters. First time around, George Groves quashed any dismissive attitude’s regarding his status as a genuine contender to Carl Froch’s world title. The fact that this fight has expanded to an event of this enormity, can be largely contributed to Groves’ brutal assault on Froch six months ago. Groves has embraced his new role from undeterred underdog to a bonafide threat who believes he is a superior fighter to the well seasoned veteran in Carl Froch.

First time out Groves immediately took to the front foot as the aggressor. An accurate jab blending smoothly with a powerful right hand brought Groves much success. Notoriously slow out of the blocks, Froch looked tentative from the off set. The heavy knockdown Froch suffered in the first round was a dominating factor in the first half of the fight. As Froch attempted to shake of the effects of the knockdown, Groves continually nailed Froch with an array of punishing shots. Froch may opt to answer the opening bell similar to the Kessler rematch, working behind an underrated jab with a calculated out put.

Groves will likely look to control center of the ring, using a fast jab and feints to set up the right hand. The early rounds will be key for George as Froch, a self proclaimed 15 round fighter, finishes fights strongly. Groves should bank the early rounds as these early deposits may cash in later should the momentum shift. The eight and ninth round first time around did little to dismiss Carl’s remarks regarding Groves stamina over a hard 12 round fight.

Carl Froch has proven time and again to be a championship caliber fighter. Previous bouts have been decided in the championship rounds when Froch continued to steam forward. It may play out in two halves the second time around, with Groves dominating the early exchanges. Once past the mid way point, Froch should take a hold on settings. Froch’s resilience and gut has been checked on numerous times. Tomorrow night it will be tested yet again with Froch trumping the test and remaining the IBF / WBA super middleweight champion with a late stoppage around the tenth.

Froch vs Groves is a joke

They are ‘B’ level fighters. Neither one can compete with Andre Ward. Ward toyed with Froch and would do the same to Groves. America has the best LHW fighter.

    This is a pity match
