In the aftermath of Floyd Mayweather Jr’s win over Manny Pacquiao, the first question was, who’s next? A rematch with Pacquiao can’t happen due to his recent surgery on his shoulder, so the name mostly likely to find himself in the Floyd Mayweather “sweepstakes” is that of former junior welterweight champion, Amir Khan. Khan has been often mentioned as a possible opponent, but now seems to be the leading candidate for Mayweather’s September 12th fight.

In part 2 of my “On The Ropes” interview with Roger Mayweather, I discuss with him the future of Floyd Mayweather and what opponent he would like to see him in there with. Roger also talks about his nephew fighting to 50-0 and if he thinks Manny Pacquiao could be number 50. Additionally, Mayweather shares his views on why he thinks both his nephew and Pacquiao decided to go through with the despite not being fully healthy. Here is what Roger Mayweather had to say. Jenna J: Floyd is going to fight again in about four months, what do you want to see for him?

Roger Mayweather: To be honest, I would like to see Pacquiao.

Jenna J: Pacquiao just had the shoulder injury and he’s going to be out for nine to twelve months.

Roger Mayweather: Oh well then he can’t do nothing. I guess Floyd’s gonna have to go somewhere else. I don’t know who he’s gonna fight, but he’s going to have to fight somebody.

Jenna J: What about Amir Khan?

Roger Mayweather: That’s fine too. He can fight Amir Khan. That’s a fight for him, I can’t say no.

Jenna J: Do you think it’s a good fight?

Roger Mayweather: I think it’s a decent fight with him and Amir Khan, but like I said, that’s a fight for him if he’s not going to fight Pacquiao again. He needs to turn to somebody like Amir Khan, and that will make a good show.

Jenna J: If he fights Khan in September, that will be his 49th fight. Do you think Floyd will fight beyond that?

Roger Mayweather: I was thinking that he had two fights on his contract, so I probably think he will take those two fights that he has. I don’t know if he will walk away from boxing, it’s hard to walk away from boxing.

Jenna J: Floyd just has one last fight in his contract, then his contract is up. Do you think he will fight beyond that, to try to get to 50-0?

Roger Mayweather: Well, he probably will fight over 50-0. I don’t see why he would but I would think he would fight Pacquiao just to show the people what he can do with Pacquiao. That’s what I would think he would do.

Jenna J: So do you believe the only fight he would take after his contract runs out is a rematch with Pacquiao?

Roger Mayweather: Yeah and that fight would draw a lot of people because of the fact that the fight wasn’t that good. I think the fight with him and Pacquiao would draw more people, to anticipate what the fight was going to be the first time.

Jenna J: If they were to rematch, do you think Floyd would fight differently if he had healthy hands? Would he not hold as much?

Roger Mayweather: Floyd wouldn’t hold as much. I train Floyd every day, and when I was working with Floyd in the dressing room, his hand was fucking hurting. I asked him, “How do you feel?” and he said, “I’m okay.” But when I asked him, “Does your hand hurt?” he said, “Yeah, a little bit.”

He should have gone to the doctor way before this, he should have gone to the doctor way before this time and the doctor can do what he do for you. A fighter don’t do nothing until the last minute. In the last minute, he’s gonna go somewhere and then the doctor ain’t there. What are you gonna do?

Jenna J: Do you think both Pacquiao and Floyd didn’t want to seek treatment for their injuries because they didn’t want to risk the fight being cancelled?

Roger Mayweather: You know what? You’re right, because any time a motherfucker goes in fighting with a fucked up shoulder and if anybody goes in there to fight with fucked up hands — you need hands to box and you need a shoulder to fucking box. So you’re right actually because they didn’t want the fight to be called off, obviously. That’s probably what it was, they didn’t want the fight to be called off, so that’s why they stood their ground and said, “I’m gonna fight regardless.”
