Rising prospect Adam Lopez (15-0 7KOs) hopes to once again shine on ShoBox this Friday when he faces off with Roman Ruben Reynoso (18-1-1 7KOs). This will be Lopez’ fourth appearance on the ShoBox platform and with an impressive win he can move one step closer to a world title shot.
In this special “On The Ropes” interview with Adam Lopez, I discuss with him his upcoming fight against Roman Ruben Reynoso. Lopez also shares his views on Guillermo Rigondeaux as a fighter and what champions he would like to face. Additionally, Adam breaks down Crawford-Postol, a Mayweather & Pacquiao return and his prediction for his bout this Friday. Here is what Adam Lopez had to say.
Jenna J: You have a fight coming up on July 22nd at the Foxwoods Casino in Connecticut. Can you tell the fans a little about the opponent you have?
Adam Lopez: Roman Ruben Reynoso, he’s an Argentinean fighter, he’s 18-1. His only loss is to the guy that is fighting Oscar Valdez the day after we fight. He’s training right now in Canada, he’s a good Argentinean prospect, he swings for the fences, he’s a very exciting fighter and he’s also a thinker in there also. It’s two guys with winning records going at it.
Jenna J: How do you feel about the exposure that this fight is going to receive being shown on Showtime?
Adam Lopez: I’m very excited, it’s my fourth fight on ShoBox and I’m really making a name for myself and putting myself in a good category with a lot of world champions by being on the show four times. I’ve heard a good percentage of the guys that fight on ShoBox numerous times become world champions, it seems to be a 90% rate I think.
Jenna J: You’re defending your WBA Fedelatin super bantamweight title, how far away do you see yourself from fighting for a world title?
Adam Lopez: I see myself getting a title shot or a title eliminator hopefully by next year, maybe at the start of 2017. I hope to end this year with a couple more fights and if everything goes according to plan, maybe I’ll fight three more times in 2016, maybe one more time on ShoBox if they want to put me on again. Hopefully I graduate from ShoBox and graduate to Showtime world championship boxing.
Jenna J: What do you think of the super bantamweight division? What are some of the fighters in the weight class that you would like to match up with?
Adam Lopez: The 122lb division is getting a little shaken up because Santa Cruz just left to fight at 126lbs. Frampton is going up to fight Santa Cruz. With both of them leaving, it opens up some doors.
You always have Rigondeaux, he’s always there and he’s the number one fighter at 122lbs but I can see the point of everybody else, why fight Rigondeaux? He runs from you. He’s a great boxer, he’s basically the Gennady Golovkin of our division.
If the opportunity comes to fight with Rigondeaux, maybe we’d take it. There’s not a lot of guys taking that fight but he’s starting to show that he’s a little bit rusty. In the fight with Drian Francisco, he didn’t look so good. I think he only landed seventy punches the whole fight. He punch output isn’t what it used to be — and it’s never been that high.
There’s also other people coming up in the division, there’s Donaire who is a world champion right now but he’s getting up there in weight and in age. There’s a lot of fighters, but as of right now, we’re not calling anybody out, we’re just going to take it by the ratings and if the WBA says it’s a good match up, we’ll take that.
Jenna J: What is your official prediction for you upcoming bout with Roman Ruben Reynoso?
Adam Lopez: I think I can get a stoppage. I’ve been working on a lot of things and watching him and seeing the things that he does and how he fights, and working on his weaknesses. Hopefully I get a stoppage, maybe in the middle rounds, but I’m happy with the unanimous decision.
Rigo is the most avoided for a reason. If he’s shown on TV he stinks up the place. Adam should stay far away
