Bobby Czyz: “Pacquiao is far too old and slow, he doesn’t really have a good shot at beating Mayweather!”

Recently I had the pleasure of talking with former light-heavyweight and cruiser weight world champion, Bobby Czyz. Aside form being a boxer, Czyz is also one of the finest boxing analysts in the sport currently. A number of topics were discussed in this interview, which include the continuing legacy of Bernard Hopkins, the prospect of a Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather fight, his prediction on who would win that fight if it was to happen, and much more. Here is what Bobby Czyz had to say in part 2 of his interview.

Robert Brown: Bernard Hopkins recently unified the light heavyweight title against Beibut Shumenov. How do you think Hopkins is able to do what he does at age 49?

Bobby Czyz: Well, within life in general everybody is born with a different set of genetics. He has as it turns out, genetics that are superior to most — maybe not all, but to very many. He also takes care of himself, he’s a person that doesn’t abuse alcohol or drugs, and he keeps himself in great shape.

He’s never not in shape, he doesn’t let his down time destroy what he’s built with his body. He’s a very focused and intelligent individual. I’ve known Bernard a long time, I know him very well — one of the best world champions of this time and ever.

You know, Jersey Joe Walcott didn’t win his heavyweight title till he was 37, and for most heavyweights 37 isn’t even a number that they can compete at. George Foreman also at 45 after a 10 year lay off.

There are a number of people that can do the extraordinary — not just because they want to, but because their bodies allow them to. So far, Bernard Hopkins’ body is allowing him to compete at the right levels.

Robert Brown: How would Hopkins compete with someone like Archie Moore in your opinion?

Bobby Czyz: It’s so difficult to do the throwbacks because of a number of reasons. Number one, the training techniques have been sophisticated, the diets.

Back in the old days, in the 40’s to 60’s, they were eating steak before a fight — that’s one of the worst things you can possibly eat for energy. Now it would be a complex carbohydrate — a baked potato, or a sophisticated pasta.

The training techniques are more unique now, and conducive to long term endurance. So many things are not equitable because of the time frame. All I know is, it would be a hell of a fight.

Robert Brown: Why is it that Hopkins can make his opponents fight at his pace, and have them severely reduce their punch output?

Bobby Czyz: I’ll tell you why that is, and with all due respect, it’s a slight misinterpretation from your point of views. What Bernard Hopkins is doing is not allowing them to put that kind of output. He’s not allowing them to throw their punches in bunches. He’s neutralizing them through his brains and his experience.

Bernard Hopkins is a boxing genius in many ways, and that’s what he does. His experience, his smarts and his control of his own body can compromise what other people are able to do with him by positioning and speed, thought process and reflexes. He’s brilliant.

Robert Brown: Manny Pacquiao recently defeated Timothy Bradley. Bradley seemed to let the pressure of the previous fight get to him and he went in with the wrong game plan. What were your thoughts on the fight?

Bobby Czyz: I didn’t see the first Pacquiao fight with Bradley, but I have a lot of close friends who watch the game and whose opinions I respect, and they said it was a blatant robbery.

I watched the second fight live with about five friends, after about the 4th round I said, “Listen guys, I’m gonna say this now, Bradley is gonna say he’s got an injury.” After the 9th round I said, “Bradley still isn’t complaining, but something on him is not right, he’s got an injury.”

After the fight was over and they announced the decision, in the interview, he had this violent cramp in his right calf I believe, but I knew something was wrong. I don’t believe he’s as good as Pacquiao — never was, never will be. However, he wasn’t fighting to his best ability, which was much better than he displayed that day.

Robert Brown: Manny Pacquiao hasn’t resigned with Top Rank yet. Do you think we will have any chance of getting a fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather? What do you think the original catalyst for the war between the big two promoters was?

Bobby Czyz: I don’t think that we’ll ever see Pacquiao with Mayweather. With all due respect to Mayweather, who is one of the greatest fighters of his time, and any time, the first fight he had with Castillo, he got beat. They gave him a split decision but he lost that fight. He came back and destroyed Castillo in the second fight.

Here’s where the decision becomes a matter of record for the promotion, the promoter and the fighter, keeping the undefeated legacy alive keeps the money coming in. Follow the money and you’ll follow the agenda.

In this particular set of sequences, Pacquiao is far too old and he’s slowed down enough that he doesn’t really have a good shot at beating Mayweather if they fight, and I don’t think they’ll fight.

Robert Brown: So if they fought, in your opinion Mayweather would win at this stage?

Bobby Czyz: Yes.

Robert Brown: Looking back at your career, are you satisfied with what you were able to achieve?

Bobby Czyz: I am satisfied with the legacy I will leave behind, yes I am.

Robert Brown: You’re not involved in boxing anymore, what are you doing these days?

Bobby Czyz: I’m actually involved in the commodities business, and buy sell trades. As it turns out I make more money doing this than I did in my entire boxing career, so I’m on my way to bigger and better things. Now that I’m 52 years old, I’m relaxing and trying to enjoy life.

  1. PAC far too old and slow? If that’s true how come fraud mayfeather don’t wanna fight him? LOL! It’s easy money, and lots of it, fans will buy the ppv, guaranteed. “experts” like zycz are saying that manny has no chance against the duck, but why the fight hasn’t happened yet? Seems like even the fraud himself doesn’t believe all of them self proclaimed “experts”.

  2. really ? then spit floyd’s dick out of your mouth and tell us why floyd keeps on ducking pac?

  3. Another expert “wanna be”, Pacquiao slowdown or Pacman is fighting a bigger opponent?
If what you are saying is correct, 24/7 Pacquiao team is waiting Mayweather to negotiate a fight, but it is not an easy fight and Money is afraid of loosing to Pacman, even you think that Pacman is slowing down.

  4. SOS different day !

IF it were as cut and dry as all these “experts” make it out to be then why doesn’t the “money man” as he percieves himself to be not fight Pacquiao ?

WTF seems like with his idea’s about setting ticket sales etc etc then he would be all for beating and old washed up guy who would most certainly help him break all the money records for a professional fight !

Bottom line the hoodrats is SCARED of loosing that 0 in the loss column . Chicken shit bastard !

  5. The reason Bradley was injured at the calf was because he was trying to avoid Pac’s punches. In conclusion, although Pac’s punches did not hit him it caused him to move in such a way as to injure himself. Bradley was in his best ability. No excuse, pls.

  6. Please, Bobby, (Cyst or Czys?) tell that to Floydie and persuade him to fight Pacquiao. Assure him that he can beat Pacquiao, tell him that you’re willing to bet your wife for him, then maybe you can eliminate his doubts and fear of facing Pacquiao.

  7. if that so. So how come floyd not fight manny? They always tell that floyd has a huge advantage so what the problem? Thr real problem is floyd is scared to death to manny!

  8. The Mayweather family KNOWS better than you Cyst – they KNOW Pac will bash lil floyd. This explains whu after 6 years, lil floyd comes up with different reasons to AVOID Pac – because the FAMILY tell him so. They spend countless days and nights studying and analyzing tapes of Pac and come up with the same conclusion – EVADE the Pacman – that is the TRUTH Mr Cyst – he he he – Pweh!

  9. Looked in the records of this “expert” Czyz. Maybe the knock-outs he suffred from Holyfield and Sanders made him think this way now.
In fact, Czyz was arrested for drunk driving three times after retirement , 1998, 1999, 2000. Writers like this author should choose the resource persons to whom they ask opinions from. …. Nice comment also from Artid

  10. who is this Bobby Cyst, is he malignant? whoever you are, tell your Monkey Friend to fight the Pac..im a little confuse is your friend a monkey mayweather or Duckgayweather??

  11. Another delusional boxer. Bobby, you probaby have a blood clot inside you brain to sound this delusional. Pacman slowing down, and no chance with Gayweather? Are you kidding me? Pacman has lighning speed punches that you probably didn’t see during the Bradley 2 fight. I had to watch it in slow motion to see pacquiao’s power punches. Don’t be decieved, Bradleys ankle or leg injury was a cause of being hit solid punches from manny in the head.

I think mayweather has not felt a power like pacman’s punches. The truth is manny’s quick punches is like a venom, it doesn’t kill you right away, but it will slowly consume you. And believe me, it stings!

  12. If they fought…..If Floyd have the balls…If there are no excuses…If Floyd is not scared…Floyd will never fight Pacquiao…..

  13. …hEy cZYZ just tell mAyweather to fight mAnny then we will tAlk, do you think that if the fight between these two hAppens pacquiao would nOt train hard? lol, floyd is scared of manny, that’s it!

  14. “BOBBY CZYZ is an old retarted boxer doesnt know what hes saying. a loudmouth like gayweather..

  15. who is this bobby chyz never hear of him. Not in a position to say what Pacquiao can do at his age now. Instead of saying crazy things why this never-heard-boxing-has-been go out in the open and strongly convince chicken Fraud Jr to face Pacquiao once and for all. This fight will determine what Pacquiao can do to Fraud Jr. Until this fight, Bobby chyzcken should close his mouth. Hmmm, I am sensing this Bobby Chyzcken’s middle name is Malignaggi!!!

  16. Bobby chyzken, Fraud Jr & Paula Malignaggi have many things in common, two of which are they are all loud mouth and envious of what Pacquiao has accomplished. 8 titles in 8 different weights, 10 titles, & Boxer of the Decade. Aside from this, he is loved by a lot of world celebrities, admired by former and present US presidents, himself a Congressman, love by fans from all walks of life & nationalities. What else, name them! All that Fraud Jr has is his boxing skills and 0. Any loss will be devastating to him. If he loses, he will lose everything, This is why he will not face a boxer who has what it takes to defeat Fraud Jr. by KO.

  17. He said he is satisfied with his legacy! Where is it? How do you define legacy? Maybe we are not on the same page when it comes to the true meaning of boxing legacy! Your name was not a household name and admittedly if you ask 100 now and then boxing fans, it is likely nobody will remember you. Ask 1,000 fans still I think nobody will be positive to have heard your name. Perhaps ask a million fans, may 1 or 2 will barely remember your name but they will not be sure of themselves.

I am really confused with the coming out of people like Mr. Bobby Chyzcken saying crazy views about Pacquiao as if what Pacquiao has accomplished is just ordinary and very easy to do.

  18. Bobby Czyz’s comment that “Pacquiao is far too old and slow…” is a somewhat crooked and surprisingly naive assessment of Manny Pacquiao’s current condition as a fighter, especially given Tim Bradley’s caliber and speed as an opponent and point of reference. It’s this simple: You don’t beat Bradley if you’re slow.

  19. Gennady “GGG” Golovekin is as ood as any boxer today and probably the most feared. He will fight anyone 154 to 168 and don’t expect any takers like Floyd Mayweather, Canelo, Quillan, or any of the Euro 160’s including Froch at 168.

  20. Have you heard yourselves! WOW!!!

If Manny wants to fight Floyd SO badly, all he has to do is not sign a contract extension AGAIN with the man who is a massive detriment to the sport of boxing and has been for god knows how long!?

What do people really see here? Manny hasn’t had a KO/TKO win for FIVE years!!! Them days I’m afraid are well and truly OVER!

How can Manny OUT BOX Floyd? He CANT! WAKE UP!!! Jesus Christ!!!

Take a step back and remove the rose tinted glasses you are wearing, your love for Manny is clouding your judgement.

You do not understand what Brown is saying and clearly don’t understand a great deal of things in the sport of BOXING!!!!!

Brown is saying Manny is too old in terms of how his body now is in terms of how many wars he has been in and also the KO from Marquez will have knocked years from what remains in his career. Yes, Manny is younger in terms of age, but Mayweather is younger in terms of not being involved in as many tear ups as Manny has, and he never will because he is too smart for that. Mayweather’s ring IQ would not allow Manny to get to him and out box him.

As I say, how can Manny out box Mayweather? and even if he does land, the power is GONE!!!

    Pacquiao worshippers are seriously deluded.
