English Heavyweight Dillian Whyte was today informed that he has tested positive for a banned substance.
Whyte tested positive for Methylhexaneamine (DMAA) which is found in the supplement “Jack3d”. The Londoner was due to fight John McDermott at the end of this month but will now face a ban from Boxing. Tony Dodson and Enzo Maccarinelli were banned for 5 and 6 months respectively for similar offences.
Whyte told IFilm London “I was on the way to the press conference for the biggest fight of my career and I got a call from UKAD (United Kingdom Anti-Doping). They said that the test I did for the last fight came back positive with traces of ‘DMAA’.
I was taking a pre-workout supplement called Jack3d, that was banned 6 or 7 weeks before I tested positive for it. I didn’t know it was banned.
I’d been using it as a pre-workout supplement in the build up to my last fight.
“For my last fight I was a little bit tired in the build up. A friend of mine suggested using this supplement Jack3d, as a pre-workout supplement to give me a bit of energy. I gave it a go, and it worked. I used it up until the day of the fight.”
“It’s the same thing that Enzo Maccarinelli and Tony Dodson got done for. When we did the research on the Internet it said that this things fine in most supplements that are sold over the counter.”
This is a genuine mistake. I would never cheat. I would never take anything to enhance my perfromance. I made a genuine mistake and that’s it.”
“I’ve been fighting 6 rounds, why would I be needing to enhance my performance?”
