Floyd Mayweather Sr: “I think that my son will probably stop Pacquiao, he’s never fought nobody with the mind that Floyd’s got”

(transcribed by Michael Readman) The long awaited super fight between Floyd Mayeather Jr and Manny Pacquiao is getting closer by the day, and as the fight gets closer the coaches for each fighter get a chance to iron out the final details of their game plan for May 2nd. In part 2 of my “On The Ropes” boxing radio interview with Floyd Mayweather Sr, I talk with him about his game plan for the fight and if we might see the match end by Knockout. Senior also talks about the possibility of a rematch and if he thinks the fight will be close enough to call for one. Additionally Mayweather talks about the fighters he works with and the projects he has coming up. Here is what Floyd Mayweather Sr had to say.

Jenna J: What do you have to say to the people that said Floyd was scared of Pacquiao. Floyd went out of his way to make this fight happen. What do you say to those people now?

Floyd Mayweather Sr: Now they’re gonna finally get the chance to see for themselves, to see they were all fools for thinking like they was thinking. There ain’t too much more I can say about them because they’re brainless, they ain’t good thinkers.

Jenna J: Floyd, do you think your son will have any extra pressure to try and knock out Manny Pacquiao, to not even risk the fight potentially being close and having it not go his way?

Floyd Mayweather Sr: If there’s a place and time where he gives little Floyd a chance to do something like that, I think it will be done. I definitely think that he can be knocked out by Floyd. This fight’s gonna be one way or the other and I know which way it’s gonna be.

Jenna J: As a trainer, do you feel like you want to see a knockout happen in this fight? Do you want to see your son end the fight with a knockout win over Manny Pacquiao?

Floyd Mayweather Sr: It really don’t make any difference whether he knocks him out or not. I’m just saying if Pacquiao gets whooped good, that’s good enough for me. I’m just saying whether he’d get knocked out or not, it don’t bother me either way. All I want is for Floyd to win, I don’t care whether he knocks him out one way or beats him the other way, either way it don’t make a difference to me.

Jenna J: Recently, it was announced that there is going to be a second season of ‘The Knockout’ reality show. Can you tell us about the fighters you trained?

Floyd Mayweather Sr: Well, both fighters I had lost but there was reason why my fighters lost and there’s no reason for me to say it wasn’t because one of my guys, he had to lose. I mean, these guys were random guys that they bring to us, guys from different places. I don’t know them, they don’t know me.

One of my guys had to take off ten pounds, I think it was eleven pounds, and the other guy, he came in last minute and he took somebody else’s place that dropped out. I had a fighter that dropped out because he had some problems and they brought another guy in and the guy didn’t even have enough time to get himself together.

The guy that got beat that they gave to me, that guy had beat him already, the guy had beat him three times I think anyway. I could have done something with the guy if I had the time, but we didn’t have the time so there ain’t nothing I can say about it.

I have one other fighter named Tapia that I’m going back down there to train him because he has a fight coming up and he was another one who was on my roster, but he didn’t end up getting to fight at the show. He couldn’t fight because he had to fight at a different time and he was fighting a fight on TV, but he was tall. He’s about 200lbs or something like that.

Jenna J: Floyd, you are going to have some fighters on the under card of Mayweather vs. Pacquiao. Who do you think you will be having fight?

Floyd Mayweather Sr: Three guys of mine are gonna fight on there: Andrew Tabiti, I got Mickey Bey and the other guy that I don’t know his full name, he got a nickname, but I do train him, they call him ‘Memphis’, he’s another one who’s gonna be fighting on one of these cards and he’s a left handed fighter. Like I said, he’s pretty good too, I think he’s 5-0 with one draw I think.

Jenna J: Floyd, in your sons last few fights, he’s showed a couple of different things. The first fight with Maidana, he was a little bit more flat footed, he allowed Maidana to tee off on him a little bit more.

Floyd Mayweather Sr: Well, I brought this to my sons attention, I brought that to his attention when he was fighting and he definitely did a much better job the second time.

Jenna J: But do you see any differences in your son? Even the last two fights he’s still getting hit more than we’re accustomed to seeing. Do you see him getting hit more than you would like?

Floyd Mayweather Sr: Well, he didn’t hardly get hit that much in the second fight. Maidana hit him with one or two good shots, but when you get hit one or two times in a twelve round fight — I’m talking about when you get hit good with even two shots — that’s nothing. If you’re getting banged up, that’s different, that’s a different story, but Floyd didn’t get hit that much with Maidana.

Jenna J: Do you expect your son to fight more like that style that he fought with Maidana, more of hit and not get hit?

Floyd Mayweather Sr: These are my thoughts on what I see and what I think is going to happen, I think that my son will probably stop him, he’s never fought nobody with the mind that Floyd’s got. That’s gonna be the problem right there.

Jenna J: In terms of legacy, how much does it mean to your son’s legacy to have this fight. How important do you think it is for his legacy if he beats Pacquiao?

Floyd Mayweather Sr: Even if he beats Pacquiao, they’re gonna try and make him fight again because they’re gonna want him to fight because I think they are trying to topple Rocky Marciano’s record or something like that, I think that’s what they’re gonna try an do. I’ll tell you this right here, it would be very, very big for Floyd’s legacy.

Jenna J: Do you think there will be a rematch, Floyd?

Floyd Mayweather Sr: I think Floyd’s gonna do what he’s got to do and then he ain’t got to look back.

Jenna J: What is your official prediction for May 2nd, Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr?

Floyd Mayweather Sr: Well, it can go a couple of different ways. I most definitely think my son’s gonna win, I think he’s gonna stop Manny, or even if he whoops him, I think it’s gonna be a real good beating, a real good beating, that’s what I think. I don’t think it’s gonna be no tight stuff. I think if he wins, he gonna touch him up, for real.

Jenna J: In closing, Floyd, any stuff you wanna pass along to the people that follow Floyd Mayweather Sr? Anything you wanna say to them?

Floyd Mayweather Sr: Hey, just remember, the Mayweather’s is the best and for all the rest, there’s no contest.

By midnight of May 2nd, Junior’s head turns into an empty shell with face severely defaced beyond recognition. And as usual, Senior’s mouth goes astray like that of Hatton and de la Hoya fights. Don’t be surprised if Senior sneaks out fast to McDonald immediately after the fight without giving comfort to Jr. after a historic loss.

Would you believe anything this scumbag is saying? Any Father who was a bad character to his son is not worthy to be listened to and believed at.,

  3. Rupert D says:

The last time I saw him in an interview promising that his guy Hatton will whoop Manny’s and as expected Manny whoop Hatton’s ass in 2 no round. This Guy doesn’t know how to train anyone in Boxing and the same fate will happen to Floyd jr.

  4. erap says:

All of Manny’s previous opponents were brave and immediately went into the ring to fight Pacman.

Your son, Floyd, is a coward and so is the Mayweather family. It took 6 years and a lot of pressure from various corners for Floyd to reluctantly agree.

  8. Bardagul says:

I hope flop jr will not change his trainer. Letting a moronic father train him is a big advantage to pacquiao.

  9. voukalz says:

its going to be a disaster if indeed they are weighing manny’s skills that low. wow! this bastard’s full of excuses!
