Gennady Golovkin vs. Canelo Alvarez 2: Will all the questions get answered in the rematch?

The rematch between IBO, WBA, WBC middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin and Ring Magazine champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez is now only 6 weeks away. The first bout provided fans an entertaining encounter with both fighters trading heavy shots, but the match also left fans with a bad taste in their mouth when it came to the decision.

The second fight is set to take place on September 16th, almost 1 year to the day of the first bout that ended in a controversial draw and both fighters are dead set on leaving no doubt when it comes to the result of the rematch. If you look at the best boxing betting sites you will see that Golovkin is once again the betting favorite against Canelo and the bout is also again favored to go the distance.

While the first bout had some close rounds, the consensus among boxing fans is that Golovkin deserved to win, with the average score being 116-112. The draw controversy was highlighted by one judges scorecard that actually had Canelo winning 118-110, meaning that Adelaide Byrd only gave “GGG” two rounds in the bout. This controversy overshadowed what was otherwise a good fight and turned some fans away from the sport.

Both Golovkin and Canelo have promised to leave this fight out of the judge’s hands and have predicted to knock each other out to leave no doubt with the boxing fans. One side story to the rematch is the two failed drug tests by Canelo that caused this fight to be delayed 4 months and the now Canelo has even more to prove than just getting a win, he also needs to prove he is not a drug cheat.

With both these subplots being talking points of the rematch excitement is starting to build as the fight gets closer. Will the second fight be the same as the first bout in terms of the action in the ring? Will either fighter get a knockout or will we have to sweat out another decision? And when it’s all said and done, will one fighter not be aided by any substance and will that fighter test clean? So many questions going into the Golovkin vs. Canelo 2 bout and only one way to get those answers, but for boxing fans, the rematch is welcomed and so are those answers.

My view on the fight is simple. I believe Gennady Golovkin did more than enough to deserve a decision win in the first bout and I believe he will do even more in the rematch. Canelo having so much to prove will change his game plan and he will not run and move as much, leaving him open to being hit with more shots. The change in pace in the fight will result in either a late rounds stoppage for Golovkin or a wider points win, either way, I see Golovkin leaving no doubt in the match and I see him solidifying his claim as the middleweight champion of the world.

Canelo has his track ready and the rematch will be as bland as the fight fight.

I was not a fan of the first fight and the fact that a judge was rigged was insane. I hope GGG just scores a KO and puts this to rest.
