Nathan Cleverly defended his WBO light heavyweight belt with a 8th round stoppage of Shawn Hawk.
The Welshman swept the early rounds, before wearing down Hawk as the fight went on. The win never looked in doubt for Cleverly, with his work rate and combinations getting the better of his opponent.
Hawk shown little sign of being broken down until Cleverly stepped up his body attack in the 7th round. The American was dropped twice in that round, just making it to the bell. The Champion went straight in for the kill in the 8th, dropping Hawk again, before the referee later stepped in.
He can now look ahead to potential unification clashes. One option being Bernard Hopkins who is looking for a world title holder to face on March 9, according to promoter Richard Schaefer.
