Mayweather Jr. looks to not only rack up win #46, but also PPV buys with stacked undercard

This weekend, current pound-for-pound linchpin Floyd Mayweather Jr. is once again set to light up the strip in his adopted home town of Las Vegas, Nevada. The MGM Grand is the venue for the worldwide main event.

Mayweather 45-0 (KO26) looks to extend his exemplary record and gain another world title against the tough and hard hitting brawler, Argentinean, Marcos Rene Maidana.

Up for grabs in this unification bout that has been tagged ‘The Moment’ will be Mayweather’s WBC welterweight crown and the WBA version held by Maidana.

Marcos ‘El Chino’ Maidana 35-3 (KO31) elbowed his way into this money-spinning match up against the sport’s biggest name by shocking a lot of fight fans, dismissing the self styled ‘Mayweather clone’ in Adrien ‘The Problem’ Broner.

This was a victory which pleased a lot of boxing fans worldwide, due to the unsavory etiquette displayed by Broner, the former WBA welterweight champion. The Argentine edged out Amir Khan in the sweepstakes (so they say) held by Mayweather and was given his shot.

Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather is coming off a landslide victory as the Michigan born boxer dismantled the young Mexican star Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez. Mayweather looked like he could have kept going all night in the fight against Alvarez. This is what we’ve come to expect from the superstar in the sport of boxing.

The manner in which ‘Money’ befuddled ‘Canelo’ had many people in awe of Floyd Mayweather’s ability against a man who many picked to hand Mayweather his first loss.

In my opinion, this Showtime PPV headline bout will result in a complete shut-out of Maidana. I just cant see any way Maidana can pick a hole in Mayweather’s sublime defense. Better boxers than Maidana have tried and failed numerous times.

I don’t mean this in any way to be disrespectful to Marcos Maidana because I am a fan of ‘El Chino’ but how can he do what others have been unsuccessful in doing? Unless Mayweather has aged rapidly since his last outing against Alvarez, Maidana will do well to land any kind of telling shot whatsoever.

I have been wrong many times before and I dare say I certainly will be again but I am confident that Mayweather will win every single round. Maidana will probably look to foul and play dirty tactics to get Mayweather out of his comfort zone and by doing so he will be prepared to lose a point or two to achieve this.

Mayweather will be prepared for this plan of action from Maidana, he prepares for every possibility that may transpire.

Amir Khan vs. Luis Collazo could be interesting, then again it could be short lived. The main thing for me in this bout is the amount of time Khan has had without a fight. Amir ‘King Khan’ 28-3 (KO19) will no doubt have ring rust issues, no matter what he says, he will. If anyone denies that fact, they are in the wrong also. Twelve months without any activity can lead to problems.

Khan has been saying he has gained strength since moving up to welterweight. Lets see if that has effected his speed. The strength gains Khan may well have garnered will unfortunately not have increased his suspect mandible.

Every time I see Khan clipped with any type of shot I am fearful that he may well be doing the dot-to-dot stagger we have seen many times already. In Khan’s bout with Julio Díaz — who was believed to be damaged goods, — Amir Khan looked very shaky and at times — especially towards he end of the fight, he looked ready to go to me. This was worrying.

Luis Collazo 35-5 (KO18) is inspired enough to pull this one out of the bag. The Brooklyn born fighter seems very eager and confident enough to take Khan out of the equation, probably once and for all at elite world level.

In the lead up to the fight, Collazo said, ”I will knock him out silly and the whole world will see it — I’m more than ready, we have a great game plan and I’ll definitely test his chin in the early rounds. My focus is one hundred percent on Khan right now.”

After his KO win over Victor Ortiz, Collazo has put himself back in the welterweight mix and wants a shot at Mayweather — but then again, doesn’t everyone. Ortiz kind of wilted in that bout, maybe it was the jaw thing or maybe he just doesn’t want to know any more, once he is tagged on the chin.

I see Khan against Collazo going one of two ways, Khan by points on the cards or Collazo by KO/TKO. I’m really not sure which. A southpaw may not be what Amir Khan needs right now. We know Khan can be over eager and jump in to throw his speedy flurries which are easily timed by any boxer with any awareness and ring savvy. This is my major concern for Khan.

Khan will have to keep Collazo on the outside, using his speed and jab to win this bout.
This is the only way I feel the Bolton man can get the win and if he engages inside, it may well be milk and cookies time for ‘King Khan.’

I’m leaning towards Collazo via KO/TKO.

Adrien Broner vs. Carlos Molina is a nothing fight for me. I do however, predict a stoppage win for Broner. It’s a bout that is there for ‘The Problem’ to get his confidence back, nothing more, nothing less.

If Adrien Broner 27-1 (KO22) doesn’t stop Carlos Molina 17-1 (KO7), he will receive probably as much grief from the boxing fans and media as he did when he lost to Maidana, if not more. Broner needs to win and win in a dramatic, show stopping eye catching manner. Time to deliver, Mr. Broner.

J’Leon Love vs. Marco Antonio Periban.

I believe this will end up as a points win for J’Leon Love.

The Michigan man, Love 17-10 (KO10) who is a member of ‘The Money Team’ has received stern words from both Floyd Mayweather and Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe, regarding his controversial split decision victory over Gabriel Rosado back in May 2013.

Love failed a post fight drug test for a banned diuretic, and this resulted in his narrow points win over Gabriel Rosado being declared a no-contest. J’Leon Love was then handed a six month suspension by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

Marco Antonio Periban 20-1-1 (KO13) will look to pressure Love and put on an exciting display. The Mexican showed he can live with solid opposition as he held his own against Sakio Bika in his second to last outing in what was a pretty close fight.

If Love can use his speed, skills and his accuracy, he can win this fight but on the flip side, if Periban can exert pressure and get Love out of his comfort zone and time J’Leon Love, then Marco Antonio Periban may well take the win. The Mexican brawler Periban, is naturally the bigger man and this could certainly play a role if the fight goes long.

Floyd’s best defense is clever cherry picking whereas ducking is his best offence. And a brilliant line up of under cards makes him look good in marketability. He is the best in boxing business NOT as a boxer. I will salute him as the greatest of all times if he conquers dangerous opponents the boxing world desires him to do.

His best defense is running away from Maidana…
