Floyd Mayweather Sr: “Pacquiao is going to fight again and all it’s going to do is be worse, Jeff Horn is going to beat him worse!”

Trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr has always been one to speak his mind and tells it like he sees it when sharing his views on the sport of boxing. One person that Mayweather Sr has never been shy to give his view on, is former 8 division world champion, Manny Pacquiao. Senior now 64, has always been his most out spoken when it came to the subject of Pacquiao, something that continues today, even after his son defeated Pacquiao in May of 2015.

In part 2 of my “On The Ropes” boxing radio interview with Floyd Mayweather Sr, I discuss with him the upcoming fight between his son and Conor McGregor, getting his views on how the fight plays out. Senior also talks about any potential illegal blows that might happen and if he thinks it’s possible that McGregor might attempt one. Additionally, Floyd talks about Manny Pacquiao’s recent bout with Jeff Horn and gives his thoughts on Pacquiao’s future. Here is what Floyd Mayweather Sr had to say.

Jenna J: What do you expect to happen in the fight between your son and Conor McGregor?

Floyd Mayweather Sr: I don’t care what level we’re on, we’re out there to win. I’m just saying, we are looking at no losses, we ain’t thinking about that.

Jenna J: What do you think Floyd will do to Conor McGregor?

Floyd Mayweather Sr: I think he’s going to be a disappointed man, that’s all I can tell you. We’re there to win and he’s there to win too. Only thing I can tell him is that he better have his best.

Jenna J: Are you expecting Floyd to knock out Conor?

Floyd Mayweather Sr: Floyd is not a knockout puncher. As you can see, Floyd used to hit harder when he was younger back a few years. He was knocking a lot of guys out back then, but it’s not about that, it’s all about winning. The thing is, Conor is going to get himself in a big mess that he don’t want to get into, believe me. He’s so easy to hit, with elbows, knees, the swiping, and none of those things are in the books.

Jenna J: Do you have any worries that if Conor starts getting outclassed that he may resort to an elbow or an illegal knee?

Floyd Mayweather Sr: Well he can, and if he does he will lose the fight. What else can you do when you lose? It’s already written up there in stone that this ain’t what you’re supposed to do, what else is it now? I don’t want my son to get hurt at all. The first time my son sees whatever is going on, it’s going to be time to stop it because he will be doing something unfair.

Jenna J: Do you think there’s any possibility that Conor may attempt to do that at any time in the fight?

Floyd Mayweather Sr: It’s very possible that he will do that, you know why? He’s going to be the man behind and he’s going to definitely try something to try to get himself back on the straight and narrow.

Jenna J: Manny Pacquiao recently fought and lost a controversial decision. Do you think Pacquiao is done?

Floyd Mayweather Sr: I don’t think he lost a controversial decision. I think he lost. I watched the fight and the guy beat him. I don’t know who could have made you think that it was a controversial fight. They were throwing a lot of wild punches and stuff, but Manny might as well go sit down now, it’s over. Floyd put a whooping on him and now this guy out-mugged him, out-smuggled him and did everything else. He needs to just quit, leave it alone.

Jenna J: Do you think Horn soundly beat him or just edged the decision?

Floyd Mayweather Sr: I think it was kind of close, but I could tell that the man was beating Pacquiao, I could tell. Pacquiao is going to fight again and all it’s going to do is be worse, the guy is going to beat him worse.

Jenna J: Do you think Pacquiao should retire instead of taking the rematch?

Floyd Mayweather Sr: Hey, it ain’t nothing else for him to do

  1. FLOYD SR YOU ARE SO WRONG JEFF HORN WILL BEAT AGAIN IN WORSE FASHION. YOUR SON WILL BEAT BY KNOCK OUT MARK MY WORD

  2. Perhaps Jeff Horn did beat Pacquiao…but definitely not by boxing standards; it was more like MMA than anything. I agree that it was somewhat a close fight though, maybe due to the dirty tactics employed by Jeff Horn, as if the age and size factor wasn’t enough (both with HUGE differences). To think he even made fun of Pacquiao calling him (and most probably the stupid referee) to “break” with the headlocks multiple times. I mean what can a small man do with that kind of dirty tactics without the intervention of such passive referee? Must have been very frustrating on the part of Pacquiao who signed up for a boxing match, not an MMA match with someone as huge as Jeff Horn.

  3. I agree with Floyd Sr. I hope Manny retires now. Jeff looked like he was a 170-pounder that night. I’m afraid, with or without stimulant in his body, he’s gonna beat Manny worse than the last time.
