DeMarcus Corley: I’d like Manny Pacquiao to beat Bradley only for one reason, so he can prove himself to fight Floyd Mayweather!”

DeMarcus ‘Chop Chop’ Corley is a multiple world light-welterweight champion, who has fought the cream of the crop at 140 including, Zab Judah, Lucas Matthysse and of course the memorable clash with the undefeated p4p king Floyd Mayweather. A number of topics were discussed in this interview, which included: Pacquiao-Bradley 2, Corley’s move down to 135 pounds, Floyd Mayweather, and much more. Here is what DeMarcus Corley had to say.

Robert Brown: Given the long jeopardy of your career and the names you have fought, are you proud of your accomplishments to date?

DeMarcus Corley: I feel great about everything that I’ve achieved in my career. I’m looking forward to campaigning now at lightweight at 135 pounds. I tip my hat off to all the fighters that I’ve been in there with who have helped me become a better fighter.

Robert Brown: Why have you made the decision to go down to 135 pounds and who are you targeting?

DeMarcus Corley: 135 was never a weight class we ever thought about until I got older in my career. It was like, if you walk around at 141 pounds, and you get on the scale come fight time and you’re always underweight, why don’t you fight at 135? I said, “We never thought about it.”

We took time out over the last two years, I’ve been training different from my previous years and my body has developed and became stronger. So we decided to go down to 135, where I would have more advantage over the 135 pound fighters.

My main target is Antonio Demarco, I wanna fight him. We’re looking at John Molina, who beat Mickey Bey and Hank Lundy, and also Hank Lundy who recently won on ShowBox, we would love to fight him at 135.

Robert Brown: What are your thoughts on the much anticipated Manny Pacquiao vs. Timothy Bradley rematch, who do you think will win?

DeMarcus Corley: I think they shouldn’t have done the rematch but everything happens for a reason. I’d like Manny Pacquiao to win the rematch only for one reason, so he can prove himself to fight Floyd Mayweather, but I think Timothy Bradley is a stronger conditioned fighter than Manny Pacquiao.

I really think Timothy is gonna win this fight. Timothy Bradley has improved a lot and he’s been in some tough fights, so he can sit in there and bang with Pacquiao more than he did last time. Not only that, but if you notice, he was beating Manny Pacquiao with a messed up ankle.

Robert Brown: How do feel about the depth in the 140 pound division?

DeMarcus Corley: The 140 pound division is very hot right now. You have Danny Garcia who has two of the major titles, Lamont Peterson has the other one. I think Ruslan Provodnikov has the 4th title. 140 is a hot division and those are some big fighters at that weight class.

Robert Brown: Who would you like Danny Garcia to fight next?

DeMarcus Corley: I’d like to see him fight Ruslan Provodnikov, I think that would be a great fight. Ruslan has really improved himself, I fought him a couple of years ago at 140 and from the time that I fought him, I thought I won that fight over there in Russia, but they gave it to him. He has really changed his style of boxing, he knows how to move his head better and he’s a better fighter now since he fought me.

Robert Brown: Can I get your thoughts on possible Rios vs. Provodnikov match up?

DeMarcus Corley: I wouldn’t want to see a Brandon Rios fight. Brandon Rios is not an exciting fighter. He proved what he knows against Manny Pacquiao. He got a pay day, but Ruslan will beat Brandon, I think he can knock him out within 9 rounds.

Robert Brown: How do you think the Cotto vs. Martinez match up will play out?

DeMarcus Corley: I think Cotto can carry the power up to that weight class, but you have to also look at Cotto has been in some wars himself. He’s been in some fights and he has a lot of damage behind the fights that he has been in. He has been damaged a lot. Looking at Sergio Martinez, he hasn’t been bruised up and banged up the way Cotto has, his body is more intact and polished compared to Miguel Cotto.

I would like to see Martinez win, styles make fights. If Martinez can box Cotto and keep him on the outside and turn him, he can win a decision. If he lets Cotto get inside and get him on the ropes, there’s a good chance Cotto may catch him with one of those good strong shots and knock him out.

Robert Brown: At what weight division should Adrien Broner fight at?

DeMarcus Corley: He should have never went up to 147 first of all. He should come back down to 140 cause he can’t make 135, he’s a fat guy out of shape. I think he should fight Danny Garcia, or ever Lamont. Fight one of the champions if you’re gonna come back right at 140. I asked for an Adrien Broner fight already, since I knew he was coming down to 140 I reached out and tried to get that fight.

Robert Brown: Who would you like to see Broner fight next?

DeMarcus Corley: He shouldn’t come back and take a dangerous fight but he has a point to prove to everyone in the media and in boxing that he so called “AB” Adrien Broner, he wants to prove a point and he tried that already once and he got beat up very badly. His handler is gonna make the decision for him on who he is gonna fight. It’s not gonna be his call, they’re protecting him and they’re gonna pick the right fight for him.

Robert Brown: What can fans expect from you in the future?

DeMarcus Corley: Look forward to me fighting some time in April at lightweight. I will be world champion once again at lightweight, I’m not campaigning at 140 so look forward to seeing me as the 135 pound lightweight champion, soon to be.

It was indeed a pleasure talking to DeMarcus ‘Chop Chop’ Corley. I wish him luck in his upcoming campaign at 135 pounds.

I would like to find out how much clout Mr. Corley has with Floyd. After Pacquiao beats Bradley, can Mr. Corley assure boxing fans worldwide that he can convince Floyd to fight Pacquiao or will he just give additional excuse for Floyd to continuously duck Pacquiao? Boxing fans did not know that Mr. Corley joins the two judges as the only 3 people on Earth who thought that Bradley won the first fight. Floyd’s announcement of a possible next fight with Khan is an ingenious scheme to duck Pacquiao. With fans anticipating a Khan opponent for Floyd, the latter hopes that there will be no public clamor for him to fight Pacquiao. If this scheme works, expect Floyd to announce or at least hint who his next opponent will be even before the Khan fight. That will not be Pacquiao, for sure. To force Floyd to fight Pacquiao otherwise he retires, hit him where it will hurt him the most. His POCKET. Boycotting his fights will force Showtime to stage the fight otherwise it will lose a lot of money with its contract with Floyd. I’m sure that the salient stipulations in the contract gives Showtime this power over Floyd or they got duped by Floyd into entering a dumb business decision.

I think it’s hard to convince most of the people in America to boycott Floyd’s fight because there are lots of people in America who are brain damaged like Floyd…if the fight will happen outside of US that would be a possibility but if it’s in US it won’t… if Floyd will ask them to eat or lick his A*s* they will…they’ll still believe that Floyd is the best..but the truth is he’s the best ducker of all time…

  3. Sonny of Sydney says:

The Mayweathers have been studying Pac past 7 years and always come up with the same comclusion -“NO Lil Floyd – AVOID Pac at all cost as he will bash you and will lose your “0”‘. They are very knowledgeable in matters of boxing – Mayweathers KNOW that Lil Floyd can not handle the intensity and unpredictabilty of Pac – the brains of Floyd Sr, Jeff and the uncle trainer collectively concluded that Pac is BAD NEWS for Lil Floyd – hence the 5 year DUCKING – Pweh! this is the TRUTH folks!

Sonny that’s a bullseye, here’s the CONCLUSIVE EVIDENCE:

Mayweather said he wanted to fight the best between 147 and 160. Don’t we have enough of the lies and posturing of the Gayweather? Seems the Floydiots did not seen the video where Floyd said: “Yes Pacquiao your next” – it was recorded on one of his pre-fight conference against Victor Ortiz. Later he denied saying it he never said that, despite it was recorded in video. What a LIAR and a COWARD. Here’s the video again for fans who have not seen it.

    What a big BS

  6. Jason Daroga says:

What more is there for Pac to prove?! This guy Corley is saying Maidana has proven more than Pac has? That’s nonsense

  7. PACMANUSA says:

What fight was that hoodrat watching ? I never saw where Fadley was EVER winning . I truely hope Paquaio beats him down so bad that Bradley needs to be carried from the ring on a stretcher .

  8. Willie says:

I agree with ChopChop, Bradley is too skilled and too athletic to lose to pacquiao. Prime Pacquiao would beat Bradley, but he is past his prime, pretty washed up. I gotta go Bradley TKO 6
