Styles make fights, it’s a term often talked about in the sport of boxing, and it means that a certain style — regardless of record or fights against common opponents — can make for a great fight and lead to success against what some think is a superior fighter. More often than not it’s a phrase that rings true, and after the success that Marcos Maidana had against p4p #1 Floyd Mayweather Jr, many people believe that another aggressive fighter in Manny Pacquiao could do even better and be the person to give Mayweather his first defeat.
In part 2 of my interview with Floyd Mayweather Sr, he discusses his son’s future and how long he believes his son will fight. Floyd also gives his thoughts on the comparisons to Maidana’s and Pacquiao’s style and if he believes that Pacquiao could bring a similar fight plan against his son. Additionally Mayweather talks about the fans that believe that Maidana beat his son. Here is what Floyd Mayweather Sr. had to say. Jenna: As a father, do you still want to see your son continue to fight? He’s made so much money, he doesn’t have to fight anymore.
Mayweather Sr: Sometimes things are rooted for people to try things, in whatever it is. I’m just saying this right now, there’s a thing about Marciano right now, the surpassing of Marciano. I guess that’s what he would probably be at.
Well , I think he has to be 50-0 to surpass Marciano. They got 3 more fights, I’m more than sure that if Floyd gets to the 49, I’m pretty sure they’ll come up with that fight. I think my son will win against Maidana, then we’ll see what else happens.
Jenna: After your son’s fight with Maidana, you will hear a plethora of fans that are all saying that Manny Pacquiao would do better now against your son. What do you think about that?
Mayweather Sr: No, no, no. Oh shit, Manny Pacquiao wouldn’t do shit. Manny Pacquiao is nowhere near that wild, nowhere near. Plus, Manny Pacquiao ain’t wearing no 165lbs either. Everything you’re talking about, it makes a difference.
Manny Pacquiao is nowhere near that big or that size, to even jump all over Floyd. I’m just saying, it won’t happen and it’s not even in the cards. Manny Pacquiao can jump all over Floyd if he wants to get knocked out, that’s what’s gonna happen with him.
Jenna J: Floyd, in your honest opinion who do you think is the better fighter, Marcos Maidana or Manny Pacquiao?
Floyd Mayweather Sr: Oh for sure Pacquiao is the better fighter, Maidana can’t fight at all! He’s a wild MMA fighter, that’s what he is. He don’t have no craft, no abilities to do shit. He ain’t even got a good damn jab.
Jenna: So you think Pacquiao is a much better technical and seasoned fighter?
Mayweather Sr: Pacquiao ain’t technical, but he’s more technical than this man here. This man is not technical at all.
Jenna: So you think it was the unorthodox style of Maidana that made it a tough fight?
Mayweather Sr: No, Maidana just can’t fight, that’s it. It ain’t nothing about him being technical this or technical that, there ain’t nothing technical about him, period. He just can’t fight.
Jenna: So what do you have to say to the people that actually believe Pacquiao can beat your son after watching that fight?
Mayweather Sr: People can believe what they want to believe, they’ll find out just like they found out with him, just like they found out with Maidana. It’s so plain to see that a blind man can see that Floyd would whoop him.
Jenna: Before the fight you said that you believed your son was gonna knock out Maidana. Is that something that you don’t see happening for your son?
Mayweather Sr: Well my son is a boxer. If Floyd would have done what his daddy told him to do, he would have stopped him. He didn’t do that so it didn’t happen, but he did whoop Maidana’s ass, that is true.
