Manny Pacquiao dismantles Chris Algieri, leaves Floyd Mayweather with no place to hide

Eight division world champion, Manny ‘Pacman’ Pacquiao made his second appearance in the ring this year by taking on undefeated challenger, Chris Algieri. Algieri, a former kickboxing champion turned professional boxer, made a leap into the spotlight when he pulled off a decision victory over ‘The Siberian Rocky’ Ruslan Provodnikov earlier in the year. The Cotai Arena in Macao, China hosted the twelve round championship bout that was contested for Pacquiao’s WBO welterweight title.

In the lead up to the fight, a surprising amount of members of the media and professional fighters predicted that Chris Algieri would prove to be too skilled, and combined with his four inch height advantage would be able to outbox the thirty five year old Filipino star. Would Algieri dethrone the boxing icon or would Pacquiao show his class and prove that he is still an elite level fighter?

The fight began as expected, with Chris Algieri staying light on his feet, looking to stay on the outside. Pacquiao stalked Algieri and launched heavy blows at the New York native. While many felt that Algieri would be able to maintain the fight at his preferred range with his long jab, the fight proved otherwise. Manny Pacquiao closed the distance at will and in the second round landed a shot which sent Algieri to the canvas. A partial slip on the knockdown, but nonetheless a knockdown.

For the first four rounds, Chris Algieri’s strategy was to stay as far away from Pacquiao as possible and avoid any unnecessary damage. Algieri was able to avoid many punches but he was offering nothing in return. A cat and mouse game took place during many of the rounds, ‘Pacman’ chasing after Algieri and looking to land his power shots on him. In the sixth round, Pacquiao scored two more knockdowns, which widened the margin to nine points on the scorecard, meaning Algieri would need to do something spectacular if he had any hope of winning the fight.

The fight continued in the same manner for the following rounds, Pacquiao clearly winning the rounds. During the ninth round, HBO analyst Max Kellerman spoke to Algieri’s trainer, Tim Lane, about the strategy to change the fight around, Tim replied by saying that Chris Algieri was going to put Manny Pacquiao to sleep. Seconds later, ‘Pacman’ landed a devastating left cross which knocked Algieri to the floor — the most significant punch of the night to that point. Pacquiao swarmed and forced Algieri to take a knee, making for the second 10-7 round of the fight.

In round ten, Manny scored his sixth official knockdown of the night. Algieri simply had no answer for the speed and technique of Pacquiao. It was no secret that Chris was not a power puncher — with only eight of his twenty wins coming before the scheduled distance — but surprisingly from listening to the corner of Algieri, it seemed their gameplan was to look for a KO win.

Nevertheless, the fight went all twelve rounds, Pacquiao winning all the rounds plus an additional six points for the knockdowns. The judges’ scorecards read, 103-119, 103-119, 102-120, all in favor of Manny Pacquiao.

With the win, Manny Pacquiao proved that he is not just a good fighter, he is still an elite level fighter who stands shoulders above all but one man, Floyd Mayweather Jr. Following Manny Pacquiao’s knockout loss to Juan Manuel Marquez in 2012, many had lost faith in Pacquiao and felt as though a Mayweather-Pacquiao fight would not be competitive. Manny Pacquiao completely outclassed a very solid fighter in Chris Algieri and sent a loud message to Floyd Mayweather that he is ready to fight.

In Manny Pacquiao’s post fight interview with HBO’s Max Kellerman, Pacquiao was asked about the fight fans have wanted to see for years, Mayweather-Pacquiao to which Manny jokingly reenacted his recent Foot Locker commercial “He wants to fight me, he wants to fight me!” and then followed it up stating that the fight he wants the fight to happen next year with Floyd Mayweather Jr. and that he is ready.

After this Saturday night, we saw the return of the explosive and dominant Manny Pacquiao, a fighter that is capable of hurting any opponent he faces and in the aftermath of Pacquiao’s win against Algieri, you have to wonder if Mayweather was watching and was considering the fight. If he has once against changed his mind in order to protect himself from a potential loss, only time will tell but one this is certain, Pacquiao has never been more ready to take away Mayweather’s perfect record.

Manny Pacquiao post fight quotes:

“Of course I’m satisfied with my performance tonight. I came to fight, I did my best and I think that’s enough.”

“We improve our strength, we did more heavy bag training and we started earlier in our training camp and that’s why I’m very confident to win the fight. I’m in shape”

“I’m looking for a knockout but he’s fast and he’s moving so it’s hard.”

“I’m ready to fight next year with him (Floyd Mayweather)”

Where is Michael Readman? He was damned sure yesterday Pacquiao will lose against Algiere? I want his OPINION now.

Yeah me too, want to know his reaction and poor prediction

      • Anonymous says:

Not really : Mayweather runs hugs and pitty pats himself into a decision. Pacman will match his speed and overpower the sissy and win by t.k.o in the 6th!!

    • Anonymous says:

Yeah Mrs pacman beat a guy who only just started boxing and only beat one named fighter that makes him ready for the the, not. May weather has never ducked him, oh my fault only from falling on him after getting knocked out. When it happens it will be after Floyd’s contract is up after two fights and mammy is out of his. Floyd is going to beat his ass while under no contract, it will be his last fight all while breaking the record and retiring at 50-0. He also will be making more money for a fight than he ever did so it will definitely help mammy pacman with his money problems. That’s why he want to fight so fast cause he hurting for money but don’t worry cause he’s going to get just what he wants hurt and beat by MONEY! MAYWEATHER that is!

      • Anonymous says:

That is just the problem $ mayweather never stands in front of a mechanic like pacman,he will run as usual

      • Anonymous says:

Beat him by running and hugging in the ring? Sure, bro.. Keep telling that to yourself. Mayweather is no doubt a great defensive elite boxer. But with Manny’s style against chris, he (floyd) will definitely lose. He can run but notice how pacman swoops a long range straight combo. Wipe that smirk off floyds face.

      • Doug Rice says:

Of course you would make these comments as an anonymous person. Kind of shows the kind of backers this guy has. I think he’s a great fighter the world thinks he’s a great fighter but his arrogance and lack of humility makes him very unpleasant to watch. Taking pictures of money while on a bed show how shallow and just how undeserving he is of the very riches he’s obtained by his own 250. Manny Pacquiao has class Manny Pacquiao has style he’s a statesman a politician he helps people he doesn’t take pictures of himself with large amounts of money and quite frankly I think he’s just the one to bring you down a notch and that’s me publicly saying it not an honestly try it out don’t hide in the shadows.

  2. Run, Mayweather, run!
    Pacquiao is coming to town!

  3. Landerskie says:

Next excuse please?,He’s coming at you Floydie!!

  4. joe peter briol says:

Al Gaymon and Gaweather expect another demand to avoid the fight

  5. alberto manalon madrilejos says:

I fervently pray Floyd would not look for another woman to brutalize that would land him in jail again for some length of time. I hope not. Right, Floyd Jr?

  6. King Arthur says:

I don’t need to be rushed!! I loved to watch Pacman , rather watching Gayweather , oppss ain’t no thrill at all!!! superman Pacman always at his best and interesting!!!!!

  7. BIZKITPARK says:

I hope the fight will happen next wear, gayweather has no place to hide anymore. If gayweather refuse again the big fight to happen, it’s time to remove him in pound for pound list and even remove the current welterweight belt with him!!

  8. Anonymous says:

    Breaking news!
Floyd Mayweather Jr’s latest demand for the fight against Pacquiao to happen is to include in the fight contract……. “Manny Pacquiao should not hit me hard. Every power shot that would hit me is equivalent to $10,000 as fine.”

  9. nats dalanao says:

Mayweather will fight Pacquiao for ONE REMAINING condition…It should be the Thai version…

  10. mmʑʑayad says:

    WHO PREVAILS???

    TEAM ASHKENAZI vs MONEY TEAM

  11. mmʑʑayad says:

    PLOY MAYWEATHER:

    1) Must not be allowed to dictate Pacquiao’s gloves

    2) Must not be allowed to CLINCH, CLING, GRAB, HUG or HOLD !!!

  12. JoseMariaDeManila says:

Please Do Not Expect Floyd is going to finally step-out of his mother’s skirt and fight like a man. He won’t.

All these years, he’s been evading Manny P with all the excuses, unreasonable conditions, and huge demands obviously to make the fight more and more impossible to happen. Too bad too many Mayweather fans thought their idol was reasonable, while it was too obvious he was selecting ONLY patsies as his opponents to avoid any blemish in his record.

He can only hit Pacman his huge big mouth but is way too afraid to use his gloves to hit and engage him. He knows too well his big huge scarlet lips will be the first casualty should he face him and he’ll have a hard time talking thrash after the fight is done.

He’s not going to fight Manny.
He’s all mouth but got NO BALLS!
    Expect that!

    • Anonymous says:

All of you that are running your mouth and talking about people’s Mothers need to shut up and get into the ring yourselves PERIOD!

  13. Gayweather will not fight Pacman. He is now looking for excuses to avoid Manny. Probably he will fight pacquiao on codition that in a contract Manny will agree not to hit Mayweather.

  14. Jake says:

Packard going all nuts over a win on Algeri Lol.. I like pac and it should be a good one vs Floyd… Bring it on…

  15. cell says:

Quick thought why do so many people wanna see Pac an Floyd fight? By the looks of the comments Floyd is gay and not worthy of Pac-Man

  16. coolwaterjinx says:

Chicken May will generate another excuse for the fight not to happen. Let us wait what his excuse to avoid Pacman. ☺

  17. Dirk says:

Why would Floyd fight Manny when he can avoid it? Just a question…

  18. rjr says:

Floyd will try to get 49—0 without fighting pac, because if he lose none will wanna see him anymore. Rocky has 49—0. On the fifthieth fight he`ll fight pac, call it 50/50. And when he beats him he can be the best ever. Thats my guess, and then his right hand stinger might come back seems like he hurt it in the canelo fight.

  19. Charles says:

Mayweather HATERS ask Juan Manuel Marquez who will win the fight between On Backman I mean Pacman and Money Mayweather You Pacman Lovers are should I say Mayweather HATERS you are not using common sense.Mayweather spanked Juan on the other hand Juan knocked Pacman out and the other fights you might as well say they were draws It’s really a shame that your HATE defies what is so obvious Pacman is going to get a spanking and possibly knocked out

    • chester tyson says:

so according to your expert boxing opinion, since Floyd dominate JMM who knocked out Manny…in your theory, Floyd would do the same to Manny or worse?…So how did that work out for George Foreman when he fought Ali? Didn’t Ali lose badly to Frazier who George Foreman destroyed after? I guess Ali didn’t get the memo. Dumb opinions from Floyd dick riders….who only watch boxing when Floyd puts on a circus…are polluting the already murky boxing atmosphere…go back and stick to watching WWE

    • rob says:

You are really a dumbass if you watch all the fight Pac vs Marquez in slow motion count the punches that hit marquez and pac you will see pac was ahead if you know boxing which is I know you don’t even you were ahead of 2 points once I knock you down I took your 2 points from you okay dumbass, regarding your boy maywhatever if he’s not afraid and he’s supposed to be a good business man he think about making a lot of money don’t you think he should easily go fight pac ask yourself a question if you know you can beat one person easy no sweat and you can make a lot of money would you say yes let’s get it on or maybe they should fight winner takes all I know pac will say yes but I dont think maywhatever will say yes.

    • rob says:

Tell maywhatever fight Marquez 3 more times I guarantee you marquez will put gayweather in the canvas too.

    • Anonymous says:

And bradley beat Juan, Manny beats Bradley.. Your theory sucks balls

    • germs says:

You idiot,..didn’t you see the last fight of pac vs jmm….pac was destroying the shit out of jmm hes corner was telling him they were going to stop the fight…then surprising he landed that hit at the same time the bell rang ,..thats what boxing is one punch and that could happened,..then jmm says that that was the plan,…so the plan was to get he’s ass whip until on all the rounds to see if one shot lands?

  20. jb says:

all these money hatters i like pacman an cause he won lastnight dont mean nothing
look who he fought wow like algeri is a great fighter i think pacman need to fight Alvarez
so we can see where he at fareal or even keith thurman i bet those fights wont happen
so wont yall stop hattin on him and tell many start fighting top contenders instead of people like algeri cause mayweather has never fought a opponent that was as weak an none skilled as algeri

  21. tonyzz says:

Floyd wouldn’t be able to hold Manny,Manny would knock his head off.

  22. JustSam says:

I wish Mayweather could read all these comments….

  23. edward says:

    Dumbass

  24. edward says:

Charles you are a dumbass pacquaio will crush mayweather why do you think hes been ducking him for so long

  25. Anonymous says:

    Mayweather to Pacquiao…

Take WHO Standard Ebola and MERS CoV tests.

  26. Norberto Manuel says:

Perhaps if no promoter or Showtime will promote next Mayweather fight but a fight with Pacquiao, the Mayweather camp will be forced to face Pacquiao to heed the demand of the boxing world. The fight has to happen its their obligation to the fans. The promoter or HBO should also be restrained for promoting Pacquiao next fight but a fight with Mayweather.

  27. jr.soto says:

styles make fights. So what happened to JMM might not happen to Pacquiao.also the fact that pack-out hasn’t had a knock out bares nothing on the fight. I’m sure after the knockout he learned not to put his guard down no matter what. if they are about the fans we will see it next year if not then we know who the Tbe really is. ( Pacquiao)

  28. K GOOD says:

    Team money may all day

  29. jr.soto says:

    Lol meant Pacquiao

  30. jr.soto says:

more like Showtime should force him to take the fight so they can actually make the money they were projecting to make off of Mayweather, let’s face it.there is no one out there for him but Miguel Cotto for any serious viewings. Bottom line, if Mayweather wants to consider himself tbe, then like all old school legendary fighters. You have to fight the best there ever were while you were in a division no matter what if not who is going to take tbe seriously. On paper Pacquiao is more accomplished than Mayweather ever will be 8 divisions yes 8 no one else has ever even came close the return with the zero has already been done by Rocky Marciano. So there you go Floyd you know what you got to do if not hope that everybody might consider you tbe. Worst case scenario you will be second best, which is not bad at all.

    • glenn says:

it’s called boxing folks, not you punch me and i punch you. it’s 90% mental.you seem to forget this started because pacman would not take a drug test. then when he got ready he said he would fight,Floyds last fight should be pacman win or lose he will smile all the way to the bank, it’s business people it’s all about money.only reason everyone wants to fight floyd is because of the money they can make, that includes pacman he really needs the money.

  31. Dunhill says:

Hysterical. I saw one person get it right… When they were both actually at their best it was the blown up pacman that refused the fight, not Floyd. I hate Floyd. …hate any man that hits a woman… but this concept that Floyd ducked pac has always been a joke. Pac wouldn’t do the drug tests, he just refused. With about 5 different excuses…. they kept changing. Floyd offered a contract with no outs at all if pac would just agree to the drug tests…. His fans have an odd view of history.
If the fight happens I will root for pac, as I said I HATE FLOYD, but it will be a destruction. Pacs fans will have a million excuses and say that if they fought earlier that pac would have won.
Everyone KNOWS why pac refused the drug testing back then… it ain’t be rocket surgery!! Now he is older and age and holding the we for a long enough time makes him able to fight at 147 and I’m sure he THINKS he is as strong and fast as he was but nah… He aint. An over rated kick boxer is NOT the GOAT. Floyd is. He just beat a “pretty good fighter” but that’s it.
Don’t be shocked if pac fails a drug test if the contract is signed either.
I’ll root for ya pac but ya ain’t got a prayer.
Btw-if I was Canelo I would be talking mad shit about pac cause he would walk him out in a round or two.
